Jurassic Classroom to visit Seymour Public Library Friday


SEYMOUR - Jurassic Classroom presents “Amazing Adaptations” at 3 p.m Friday at Seymour Public Library.

Crests, horns, frills, plates, spikes, spines, teeth, claws: when it comes to adaptations, dinosaurs are the all time winners! Children will get to observe some of the amazing adaptations for themselves, and use their science skills to figure out what they were for. 

This program is ideal for children 7 and older.

The Library is at 46 Church St.

Celebrate Earth Day April 18 at Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center


 

Earth Day FAQ


Q: Is there a fee to get in?
A: No, there’s no admission fee for our Earth Day Celebration!

Q: Where do I park?
A: There are two parking lots available: our main parking lot in front of the Nature Center, and an auxiliary lot in front of the Redwing Pond House, located at 21 Milan St. Follow the directions of the parking attendants.

Q: What time does the event start?
A: The event starts at 10:00 AM and continues until 3:00 PM.

Q: Where do I go to join an scheduled event?
A: Hikes and most other scheduled events will meet at the entrance to the Nature Center. Featured Creatures with James will meet inside the Nature Center. Space is limited for our live animal show, and spots fill up fast, so come early!

Q: Will there be bathrooms available?
A: Yes, there will be outdoor portable toilets on-site as well as indoor restrooms.

Q: Will the Nature Center building be open?
A: Yes, the Nature Center will be open for Earth Day. We will be closed the day after (Sunday), and will re-open on Monday.

Q: Is there a rain date for this event?
A: No, in the event of rain there will be no event.

Q: Will there be places to sit and rest?
A: Yes, there are benches at the pavilion and bleachers next to the fields

Q: Is there handicap parking available?
A: There are handicap parking spots in our main lot, and some spots will be made available next to the field; tell the parking attendant if you require accessible parking.

Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: Dogs are not allowed at this event, with the exception of service animals.

Q: Is this event stroller-friendly?
A: You are welcome to bring a stroller, but be advised that exhibitors and vendors will be set up on the athletic field, the condition of which can vary based on recent weather.

Q: Will there be an ATM available?
A: Yes, there will be an ATM at this event.

Q: Is outside food allowed?
A: Yes, if you would like to bring a bagged lunch or snacks with you, you are welcome to do so.

Q: Can I donate items to the raffle?
A: Yes! We welcome donations, and will be accepting raffle items up until Monday the 7th. When you drop items off at the Nature Center, be sure to fill out the Donation Log sheet.

We invite you to honor Mother Earth, with our Friends of the Ansonia Nature Center (FANCI) co-hosting this annual event from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. April 18. 
Enjoy hikes, live animals, environmental exhibitors, a farmer’s market, music and more! Food and snacks available from local vendors. No park admission fee. 
All ages welcome; bring family and friends to celebrate spring!
FREE Admission! No registration necessary.

Annual Autumn Festival slated Oct. 18 at Ansonia Nature Center

Autumn Fest is One Month Away

Autumn time is here, and the Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center invites you to their annual Autumn Festival. 

Attractions include food trucks, petting zoo, pumpkin painting, face-painting, raffles, free-to-play children’s games, animal shows, vendors, and more!

NO park admission fee.

Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center to hold habitat hike for all ages


ANSONIA - Join us at 1 p.m. July 27 at the nature center for a special hike through three different habitats. 

The first being one of our Vernal pools, the second being our pond, and the third being our unique forest with an underground spring! 


Together, we will spend some time in each habitat discovering some of the different plants and animals that call each their home, as well as learn about what makes each of these habitats so special and important. 

This is a FREE, all-ages program (an adult must accompany children).

Singer/songwriter to present interactive program at Ansonia Nature Center


Chris Rowlands, Puppeteer and Singer, to appear at 7 p.m. July 26 at Ansonia Nature Center.
Chris Rowlands is an award-winning singer and songwriter who offers an interactive, kid-friendly presentation for those who love music and nature. He creatively blends music, comedy, and education in a fast-paced show that teaches and inspires.
Rowlands brings animals to life through song, dance, puppets, and colorful props to teach children about animals and their habitats.
The Environment Magazine has honored Chris with its first E Award for his environmental education programs.
Don’t miss this musical program! FEE: $10 per family.

ANSONIA - Come and learn about the Nature Center’s resident animals at this special creature feature celebrating the animals of Halloween.

The staff will talk about the different species of mammals, reptiles, insects, and birds we have on display. You may perhaps get a glimpse at some rarely seen critters that call the Nature Center home. 

We will also teach the children how to touch and handle some of these soft, scaly, and slimy creatures.

Seymour C.A.R.E.S. seeks volunteer shelter manager

If this is an emergency where an animal is sick/hurt, you MUST contact your town Animal Control.

If they're closed, call your police station.

At the very least, transport the animal to the emergency vet.

Email seymourcares@yahoo.com if you have adoption questions, need to surrender a pet or help with strays/ferals, or have a lost pet. Provide details.

Story time in Shelton to celebrate animals, feature tai chi, crafts

SHELTON - Move Like the Animals Story Time will be held from 10-11 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 8 at Derby-Shelton Rotary Club Pavilion, 38 Canal St. East.

Children 3-8 years old are welcome to join Plumb Library's Miss Maura and tai chi instructor Miss Debbie for this special Saturday story time celebrating animals through books, musical movement, Tai Chi exercise, and craft fun!

Program Reminders:

5) Please bring a blanket or chair to sit on.
