Torch Club shows appreciation to nurses at Griffin Hospital in Derby

Front row from left: Torch Club members Jonathan, Ashley, and Melanie; and Jenna Papandrea, Griffin student nurse intern.
Back row from left: Shaye Roscoe, Executive Director, Boys and Girls Club; Ed Valente, Manager, Griffin Hospital ICU, Ashley D'Agostino, Griffin clinical nurse educator, Torch Club member Erin, and Mike Cannici, Torch Club Program Director.

DERBY- The Torch Club members of the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley presented gift cards to Griffin Hospital nurses in appreciation for their dedicated service during the COVID pandemic.

Torch Club is the Boys & Girls Club's middle school youth leadership program where members elect officers and work together to implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community; education; health and fitness; and social recreation.

All fundraisers and events are planned and implemented by the Torch Club members, as are the donation recipients.

This year, the Torch Club chose the Griffin Hospital nurses, understanding that as difficult as the COVID-19 pandemic has been for kids like them, it was even more challenging for those on the front lines in health care.
