'Turnback Tuesday' features Hotckiss Hose Company of Derby

Turnback Tuesday is reminding everyone of the Hotchkiss Hose Co. of Derby.
This fire company was formed on June 7, 1837 which makes this the oldest fire company in Derby. It was started by Edward Shelton, Julius Hotchkiss, Ephraim Curtiss and Edward Lewis with Frank Gates as the first captain. The first location was on the corner of Third and Minerva. Since the 1970s their location is David Humphreys Road across the street from Bradley School.

The Derby Public Library has on display till the end of October memorabilia from the Hotchkiss Hose Co. and its members. We encourage you to come and visit this incredible piece of history.

Thanks goes to Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week.

Griffin Faculty Physicians welcomes endocrinologist to medical group

Jovana Vidovic, M.D.

DERBY - Griffin Faculty Physicians is pleased to welcome Jovana Vidovic, M.D., a compassionate and highly skilled endocrinologist, to its multi-specialty medical group.

Dr. Vidovic joins Griffin Faculty Physicians Endocrinology after completing a fellowship at the University of Washington where she cared for individuals diagnosed with diabetes, thyroid, pituitary, and adrenal disorders, osteoporosis, and other hormone-related conditions with a focus on patient education and so that they could have more control of their chronic condition.

“What I love about endocrinology is that it's about restoring balance,” Dr. Vidovic said. “Too much of a hormone can cause disease, as can too little. Helping patients restore that balance often helps them feel like themselves again.

“The endocrine system is complex, so I take the time to explain conditions using simple analogies and pictures. My goal is for every patient to feel informed, confident, and empowered to manage their health.”

Dr. Vidovic earned her medical degree at Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary and expanded her training as a resident at NY Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn.

She is fluent in English, French, and Serbo-Croatian.

Dr. Vidovic is currently seeing patients at the Griffin Faculty Physicians Endocrinology office at 300 Seymour Ave., Suite 203.

For more information or to make an appointment, call 203- 735-3500.
