Derby Public Library to host chess club, board games for teens

DERBY -The Derby Public Library Teen Chess Club invites all young adults ages 12 to 17 to meetings each Monday in February (excluding holidays) from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
All skill levels are welcome. 

Participants will learn how the game is played as well as defensive/offensive strategies. 
Julio Maldonado provides superb expertise from a life-long love for the game.  

YA Wednesdays 
The Library hosts YA Wednesdays every month from 6-7:30 p.m.
All young adults ages 12 to 17 are invited to join the fun each Wednesday in February as Nintendo Wii, board games, and Legos will be available. Light refreshments will be provided. 
Registration is requested.

Seymour center sponsoring day trips this winter

SEYMOUR - The Seymour Senior/Community Center is sponsoring a number of day trips open to the public in January and February. 

Day trips are as follows:
UConn Men’s Basketball  vs. Georgetown, Jan. 23, Hartford XL Center, $35 per person includes ticket and mini-bus transportation.

UConn Women’s Basketball vs. Memphis, Jan. 30, Hartford XL Center, $25 per person includes ticket and mini-bus transportation.

Annual Connecticut Garden and Flower Show at the Hartford Convention Center, Feb.18. Tickets will be purchased at the door at a senior discount price of $14 per person, cash only. Transportation will be provided. Limited space on the mini bus.  

A three-day, two-night trip to Atlantic City Tropicana Hotel and Casino is scheduled for April 13-15. The trip includes transportation, hotel accommodations, food coupons, $30 bet voucher and gratuities. Price is $215 per person double occupancy.

Connecticut Historic Gardens group seeks artwork for poster contest

Osborne Homestead grounds in Derby included on list

From the group's website: "Connecticut’s Historic Gardens was started in 2002 by a small group of historic sites with gardens that pooled resources to participate in the annual Connecticut Flower and Garden Show held in Hartford, Ct."

In Derby, the Colonial Revival gardens at the Osborne Homestead Museum, 500 Hawthorne Ave., are listed among the state's historic gardens.
