Shelton Libraries to close April 7 to observe Good Friday


SHELTON - The Huntington Branch and Plumb Memorial Libraries will be closed on Friday, April 7 in observance of Good Friday.
Huntington's hours for the rest of this week:
12:00pm - 7:00pm Wednesday
10:00am - 5:00pm Thursday
Closed for Holiday Friday
10:00am - 3:00pm Saturday
Plumb's hours for the rest of this week:
9:30am - 5:00pm Wednesday
12:00pm - 7:00pm Thursday
Closed for Holiday Friday
9:30am - 3:00pm Saturday

April meetings of The Silver Sluggers at Derby Public Library canceled



DERBY - Due to unforeseen circumstances, the April 6 and April 20 meetings of Sports Talk with Rich Marazzi and The Silver Sluggers at Derby Public Library have been canceled. 

The status of future meetings beyond these dates is still to be determined.

Kids can learn to bake scones at Huntington Branch Library in Shelton



SHELTON - Children ages 8 to 12 can come to the Huntington Branch Library to bake vanilla scones at 1:30 p.m. April 14.
We will provide the materials and in-person instruction. 
Each child must be registered individually. Caregivers must remain in the library for the duration of the program.

We will be using a stove. 
We will be using flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, butter, cream, vanilla, milk, and powdered sugar, and cannot accommodate for any allergies. 
Please keep this in mind when registering.

Scientist to discuss her book, 'The Alchemy of Us' at Derby Public Library



DERBY - Award-winning scientist and science communicator Ainissa Ramirez, Ph.D. will share insights from her book, "The Alchemy of Us" at 6:30 p.m. April 12 at Derby Public Library.

Winner of the CT Book Award and finalist for the L.A. Times Book Prize, "The Alchemy of Us" unfolds how simple inventions shaped society and our lives. 
Ramirez will illuminate how everyday objects around us had a hand in changing language, politics, and even our bodies.

Ramirez received her bachelor's degree from Brown University and her Ph.D. from Stanford, both in materials science and engineering. 
She began her career as a scientist at Bell Labs and later taught at Yale as an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering. She now focuses her energy as a "science evangelist" with a mission of making science understandable to audiences of all ages.
