SHELTON - Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center, a skilled nursing and rehab facility on the Wesley Village Campus was recently featured in the “Being the Difference” Leading Age Member Showcase for the unique ways it is making a difference in the lives of older adults.

Seven senior care providers from across the state were featured in the showcase and invited to highlight their impact to attendees at the Leading Age Connecticut Expo.
The expo, held at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville in May, included more than 500 attendees.

“Every day we are making a difference in the lives of our residents, patients, and families,” said Debra Samorajczyk, Administrator at Bishop Wicke, “but demonstrating our Mission and Values in action is what makes that difference.”

Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center is owned and operated by United Methodist Homes, a local, mission-based, not-for-profit senior living provider with a 140-year legacy of caring for older adults.

Samorajczyk highlighted several staff development programs which center on the organization’s Mission and core Values, such as the annual Values in Action program, Spirit Renewal Ceremonies, weekly Mission/Values in-services, Supervisor and Leadership Training, as well as mentoring programs, on-the-spot recognition and others.
The “Values Board,” an employee-recognition initiative that invites staff, residents, and family members to share immediate feedback after any positive experience, was displayed for attendees during the presentation.

“Making a difference begins with our caregivers. All of our staff who work directly or indirectly with our residents are part of the process to create the very best experience for our residents and families,” Samorajczyk states.
“We were proud to be part of the ‘Being the Difference’ Leading Age CT Member Showcase,” said Samorajczyk. “It is inspiring to see the ways senior care providers, like Bishop Wicke, are making a difference in the lives of older adults.”
