Ansonia Police to participate in programs to assist residents with autism

ANSONIA -  The Ansonia Police Department is pleased to announce our involvement in two programs to assist residents of Ansonia who are autistic or have a family member with autism.

The first program is the Blue Envelope program sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicle and the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association.

Any licensed driver on the autism spectrum is encouraged to come to the Ansonia Police Department and pick up an envelope that they can put their registration and insurance information in.

The envelope contains helpful tips and information for the driver on what to do and what happens during a car stopped by the police. More information regarding this program can be found at www.portal.ct.gov/DMV-Blue-Envelope.

The second program is an Autism Safety Alert Form developed by Walk with Derek.

Ansonia residents can complete the form which has identifying information for the autistic individual, tips for first responders when dealing with the individual, emergency contact information, and a photo of the person.

These forms will be used by first responders when responding to calls involving the individual or will help in positively identifying the individual should first responders come in contact with them and no other family member is present.

The forms can be picked up at the Ansonia Police Department 65 Main St. Ansonia, CT 06401 or downloaded from the City of Ansonia website,   http://cityofansonia.com/filestorage/8132/8142/8174/Ansonia_PD_Autism_Alert.pdf.

The form can be mailed or returned in person to the Police Department.

This is a press release from Lt. Patrick Lynch.
