Valley Shakespeare Festival to perform 'Macbeth' at Plumb in Shelton

SHELTON - Get out your kilts and dust off your bagpipes! 
Valley Shakespeare Festival is bringing its annual spring VSF2U tour production of "Macbeth" to the Main Reading Room of Plumb Memorial Library at 2 p.m. May 5. 

With only five actors playing all the roles, Executive Director Tom Simonetti’s adaptation promises to be swift and intense. 
Fans of past VSF productions will recognize some of their favorite performers returning for this presentation, including Jeremy Funke, (last seen as Ebenezer Scrooge in “A Christmas Carol”) as Macbeth and Jessica Breda (“Twelfth Night’s” Viola) as his deeply troubled wife, Lady Macbeth. 
Kristen Kingsley and Mitchel Kawash, long-time fan favorites, will be joined by newcomer Stephen Saxton, rounding out the ensemble. 
Performers will take on multiple roles for the production, adding to the challenge of this already “haunted” play.

'Turnback Tuesday' features old Derby Junction

This week's "Turnback Tuesday" looks at the old Derby Junction (Transfer Point) located on the corner of Derby Avenue and Main Street. 
This electric road was the first one built in New England with construction starting in 1887. 
Mr. Thomas Wallace of Ansonia persuaded Mr. James Kennedy to come to Derby and build. Mr. Kennedy built the first electric railroad in America. 
Derby Junction had access to New Haven, Bridgeport (by way of Shelton) and Waterbury (by way of Ansonia).

BEACON FALLS - Children will have an opportunity to design their own Mother's Day card at 3:30 p.m. May 8 at Beacon Falls Public Library, 10 Maple Ave.

Library staff can pick up Grade 3 and over students at Laurel Ledge School with appropriate permissions given.
Children in Grades 2 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Recuperation journey: Fingers crossed

I'm crossing my fingers that the hand controls that my husband Ralph is getting installed in his van today will make life behind the wheel much better for him. 
The controls he has been using are not as convenient for him as they once were.

The next step will be getting the van set up so he can drive from his brand new wheelchair. Unfortunately it's idling in our spare bedroom because adjustments need to be made for him to use it.

So, fingers and toes crossed today.
