Blue Collar Band to perform at Seymour Pumpkin Festival


SEYMOUR - The Blue Collar Band will be performing Sept. 22 at the 54th annual Seymour Pumpkin Festival. 
The event runs from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at French Memorial Park. 
It will feature food and craft vendors, children's games, a petting zoo, rides, and more.
All proceeds are to benefit community organizations.

Griffin Health to present star-studded gala at Aria in Prospect


DERBY - The 2019 Griffin Health Gala Oct. 11 will be a star-studded event as top celebrity impersonators from Las Vegas bring glitz and glam to Aria in Prospect.
The event will run from 6:30-11:30 p.m.

Master Impersonators, The Edwards Twins, will present An Evening with the Stars, a rollicking live performance of musical hits from legendary musical superstars. 
The Edwards Twins have performed all over the world and received rave reviews from national media, including the NBC Today show, USA Today and The Boston Globe.
Guests will also be treated to exquisite dining to match Aria’s delightfully manicured and sculpted gardens, and breathtaking scenic views of autumn in Connecticut.
The evening closes out with dancing to the invigorating and eclectic sounds of La Blanc Entertainment. 
There will also be a silent auction for guests to bid on exciting items, fabulous experiences, and one-of-a-kind memorabilia.
Tickets start at $195 per person. Black tie is suggested.

Proceeds from the Gala will help develop and sustain essential programs and services that address the wide-ranging health care needs of the communities Griffin serves ensuring access to innovative, high-quality care in a healing, person-centered environment.

The Friend A. Russ Fund will be honored with the 2019 Presidents Award at the Gala.

YA Wednesdays slated in September at Derby Public Library



DERBY - The Derby Public Library staff invites young adults ages 12 to 17 to join the fun of YA Wednesdays during September. Hours are from 6-7:30 p.m. 
Sony Play Station Four (PS4), Nintendo Wii, board games, and Legos will be available.

Story of Auschwitz survival is topic of Derby Public Library discussion


DERBY - Derby Public Library will hold its monthly Lunchtime Book Discussion at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 28.
August’s featured book is “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” by Heather Morris.
This is a story of hope and survival against incredible odds and the power of love.
Based on a true story, the wrenching yet riveting tale of determination to survive the camp is a moving testament to the power of kindness, ingenuity, and hope.
It is a testament to the human spirit and the power of love to bloom in even the darkest places.

Lunchtime Book Discussions are held the last Wednesday of the month and are free and open to the public.
Multiple copies of the book will be available at the circulation desk.

Drop-ins are welcome; no registration required. The Library is at 313 Elizabeth St.
