Boys & Girls Club to host regional summit in Shelton




SHELTON - The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley is hosting the 2017 Northeast Regional Torch Club Summit this weekend.  
There will be over 200 young people from across the Northeast Region at the Lavietes Clubhouse.  

The Summit is to inspire youth across the Northeast to feel confident that they are capable of achieving anything they put their minds to.  
This event provides youth with a fun, safe, learning environment that reinforces the values and traditions in the four pillars of the Torch Club program: Service to club and community, Education, Health and Fitness, and Social Recreation.

Deadline extended for Collicelli Legacy Fund Dinner in Ansonia

       
        ANSONIA – The deadline for a dinner program honoring the late Nicholas Collicelli has been extended to April 28. The first Nick Collicelli Legacy Fund Dinner program will be held May 5 starting at 6 p.m. at Ansonia High School. 
All of the money raised at the dinner will go to the Nicholas Collicelli Legacy Fund, established last summer by the Collicelli Family to support programs and individuals that best exemplify Nick’s passion for bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together in the quest to celebrate our common good. 
       The first Legacy Fund awards will be announced at the May 5 event. 

       Tickets are $50 per person. Meal choices are grilled filet mignon with balsamic-citrus sauce; grilled boneless chicken breast with sweet-savory sauce; and medley of sautéed vegetables over capellini.

'Fiddler on the Roof' on stage at Ansonia Middle School

“Fiddler on the Roof” at 7 p.m. today, April 26, and 27 at Ansonia Middle School auditorium, 115 Howard Ave.

Talk at Griffin Hospital in Derby to focus on ABCs of sleep

DERBY - Griffin Hospital’s Community Health Resource Center is offering a free talk to break down the ABCs of Zs at 6 p.m. May 9 at the hospital, 130 Division St.

Jackie Hoyle, Sleep Wellness Center coordinator at Griffin Hospital, will present “Sleep Well, Be Well,” a discussion about the medical definition of sleep, sleep disorders and treatments, and tips for proper sleep hygiene.
There will also be information about Griffin Hospital’s Sleep Wellness Center, a comprehensive and state-of-the-art program that provides help for sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea, snoring, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy.

This program is part of a series of free, educational forums hosted by the Community Health Resource Center in an effort to help improve the health of the community.

The Community Health Resource Center at Griffin Hospital is a traditional library that provides an array of medical and health information, including a large collection of easy to read health and lifestyle related materials.

100th anniversary of U.S. in WWI topic of talk at Derby Public Library

DERBY - The Derby Public Library will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the United States' involvement in World War I with a special presentation at 6:30 p.m. May 22.  

The program, dedicated to Connecticut’s contributions in the war, will include the United States’ decision of breaking off diplomatic relations with Germany in February of 1917, Gov. Holcomb’s assurance of Connecticut’s loyalty, and Connecticut’s preparations for war even before the official declaration.  
Library Local History Coordinator Chelsie Labrecque will also spotlight Derby’s efforts in the war, including lists of veterans as well as factory production.
