Paint and Pour planned at Marco's in Derby

DERBY - Valley Arts Council Vice President Steve DiRienzo will hold the next Paint and Pour workshop from 6-9 p.m. May 12 at Marco Pizzeria & Restaurant.


"It's a fun evening of art in a relaxed atmosphere ... a fully instructed, step by step painting workshop," DiRienzo said. 

"We supply everything you need to finish the night with your own completed work of art to take home! 

"Enjoy dinner before, after or during the session by purchasing wine, beer, entrees, and Wooster Street-style pizza from Marco’s delicious menu for inspiration!"

Cost is $35 per person.

The restaurant is at 656 New Haven Ave., in the Wal-mart Shopping Plaza.


Derby Library continues movie series, offers resume help

DERBY - The Derby Public Library continues its weekly Wednesday Movie Matinees series 
for ages 18 and over. Newly released DVDs will be shown at 1 p.m. every Wednesday.
  
Light snacks will be provided.  Registration is requested.

Resume workshops
The Library is now offering Resume Workshops at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month.

During these sessions, participants are welcome to either start from scratch or bring copies of their existing resumes, cover letters as well, for review and optimizing.

Often times a new resume can be created simply by making a number of subtle tweaks versus a whole new change.

The June class will be held at 6:30 p.m. June 3.

Registration is not required.

CWV Post Auxiliary in Derby to hold flower, tag sale

DERBY - Catholic War Veterans' Auxiliary Post 1562 of Derby will hold a Mother’s Day Weekend Flower Sale and Tag Sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Donations for the Tag Sale may be dropped off at the Post, 112 Derby Ave., starting after 1 p.m. Thursday.

It will be a one-stop shopping weekend with proceeds from both events benefitting the Auxiliary and its programs for veterans.

Congratulations go out to members of the Class of 2015 at Ansonia High School who earned $500 for their school by taking part in a 'no tanning' pledge sponsored by the nonprofit Melanoma Foundation of New England.

Nonprofit in Shelton to sponsor CT Bike for HOPE ride


SHELTON - Moving With HOPE will sponsor the second annual CT Bike For HOPE from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. May 23.

The event is a family-oriented bike ride and walk that will encompass completed sections of the Naugatuck Greenway, follow Route 67 up to Woodbury and return to Shelton.

Moving with HOPE is based at 415 Howe Ave.

The bike ride will not be timed; racing is not allowed.
Online registration will end at midnight May 22.

You can still register the day of at the registration table. Day-of registration is opened at 6:30 a.m. Same day registration accepts cash or credit card for the $35 registration fee and $50 minimum fund-raising fee paid in full.
