'Turnback Tuesday' features history of Flag Day, June 14

Turnback Tuesday reminds us that today is Flag Day.

During the American Revolution, the colonists were fighting under a number of flags. The 2nd Continental Congress was looking to unify under one flag.

On June 14, 1777, a resolution was passed stating that “the flag of the United States be 13 stripes alternating red and white” and that “the union be 13 white stars in a blue field.” President Woodrow Wilson marked the 100th Anniversary by officially establishing June 14 as Flag Day.

The stripes represent the 13 original colonies and the stars for each state in the union. Red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity, innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.
