Festival. The new date for the festival will be on
Saturday, September 30, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The location remains the same, on Main Street.
Additionally, we have a rain date of Sunday, October 1st, in the event of further adverse weather conditions.

Griffin Hospital in Derby to host AARP Driver Safety Program

DERBY - Griffin Hospital will host an AARP Driver Safety Program from 8:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Oct. 7 at the hospital, 130 Division St.
The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation's first and largest refresher course for drivers. While the course is geared toward drivers age 50 and older, the course is open to everyone.
The training is designed to help you learn current rules of the road, how to operate your vehicle more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment, and make some adjustments to common age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time.
The course also covers such topics as how to maintain proper following distance at all times; the safest way to change lanes and make turns at intersections; the effects of medications on driving; how to minimize the effect of dangerous blind spots; the importance of eliminating distractions, such as eating, smoking, and cell-phone use; proper use of safety belts, air bags, and anti-lock brakes and ways to monitor your own and others' driving skills and capabilities.
Participants will gain a greater appreciation of driving challenges and how they can avoid potential collisions and injuries to themselves and others. As an added bonus, participants can check with their auto insurance company about discounts for completing the course.
The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members. Make checks payable to “AARP.”

Legacy Tree Planting moved to Friday at Ansonia Nature Center

The Ansonia Nature Center announced this morning that the Legacy Tree Planting event scheduled for Saturday has been moved to 9 a.m. tomorrow, Sept. 22.
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is today.”
Tomorrow (Friday) is the day!
As we prepare to place our trees into the ground, we ask you to come and help us make history by being a part of our tree-planting crew. Tools will be provided. Groups welcome!

Griffin Health nurse receives prestigious DAISY award

DERBY - Griffin Health recently honored Nidia Montalvo, LPN, of Ansonia, with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate care nurses provide patients and families every day.
Winners can be nominated by patients, patients’ family or friends, or fellow caregivers for their exemplary care.
Montalvo, a nurse in Griffin’s 2 North A inpatient unit, was nominated by a patient for her kindness, responsiveness, and in exceeding expectations in making sure the patient was able to get medication before leaving the hospital.
“Nidia made me smile right from the start,” the nomination for Montalvo stated. “She is humorous, very confident and extremely happy with her profession. Nidia went above and beyond to help me out with my prescription. I cherish her wink, her smile, and her joy to help others.”
Information about the DAISY Award is included in Griffin Health patient information packets and nomination forms are available online and at all Griffin Health locations. The award recipients are chosen by a committee at Griffin and the award is presented throughout the year.
