Connecticut Kids Closet to host event in Ansonia

Admission today benefits My Sister's Place
ANSONIA - The Connecticut Kids Closet will host a tag sale featuring more than 10,000 items this weekend at Warsaw Park.

Pre-sale for charity will be held from 7-9 p.m. today.

According to an online community calendar, My Sister's Place thrift shop at 380 Main St. was the selected charity.

Proceeds from the shop benefit BHcare's The Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services.

This is a great concept. I wish it had been around when my kids were little.

State pulls down Valley Goes Pink signs in Shelton

As a breast cancer survivor I was surprised and upset this morning to read this story in the Valley Independent Sentinel.

The Valley Goes Pink is a wonderful, grass roots initiative that raises community awareness about breast cancer and supports the Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital in Derby.

I don't understand the problem, when yard signs for all sorts of things - from tag sales to political campaigns - dot the highways and byways of the Valley.

What do you think of the DOT taking down the signs?

DERBY - Initiatives to remove bullying from schools and promote positive relationships are always a good idea.
At Irving School, a buddy bench recently installed on the playground is designed to do just that.

The concept has been used in schools nationwide.

Read all about it here in the Valley Independent Sentinel.
