'Turnback Tuesday' features Derby pharmacy

This week's "Turnback Tuesday" features the Shannon Pharmacy, started by James F. Shannon.
Mr. Shannon was a prominent member of Derby, being one of the founders of the Elks Lodge in town.
In 1900, he opened his pharmacy at 53 Sixth St. on the corner of Sixth and Hawkins Streets. It is unknown when the pharmacy officially closed, but this image was taken in 1908.

A thank you goes out to Derby Public Library for providing this interesting local history!

Recuperation journey: Sentimental value or no longer needed?

Going through someone else's treasures collected over a lifetime can pose a dilemma, I've learned.
Especially when the person is one's own late mother.

I now face a new project after we cleaned out a storage unit Saturday that contained her household items, photographs, and other memorabilia.

There's a glass plate with scenes of Niagara Falls on it, a small Toby jug featuring the likeness of Old King Cole, trays for entertaining, candlesticks, record albums, and more.
And I've only started to make my way through the boxes.

It's going to take a while, I imagine.
Stay tuned if you're interested in old stuff. I'll post more photos as I go along.
