Ansonia, Derby teams raise $4K for Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin

DERBY -  The Ansonia and Derby high school softball and baseball teams recently presented Dr. Denise Barajas, medical director of The Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital, with a donation of $4,000.

The funds were raised at a special pink baseball game on May 16 and at Derby High School’s 14^th Annual Pink Softball Game May 17. 

Initiated by Derby High Athletic Director and Assistant Derby High Softball Coach Jenn Moffat for former Griffin Hospital employee, Derby High Softball Coach and City of Derby Mayor Joe DiMartino, the fundraisers are held in honor of his wife, Lori, a breast cancer survivor.

Overall, the annual event has raised more than $43,000 to help breast cancer patients in the greater Valley community.

Located at 300 Seymour Ave. The Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital offer patients a comprehensive range of personalized breast care and wellness services.

DERBY - The long-standing tradition of lively meetings about America's favorite pastime continues at 10 a.m. Thursday in the upper level meeting room of the Derby Public Library.

No registration is necessary. Free. Drop in. The Library is at 313 Elizabeth St.

ANSONIA - Please join Mayor Cassetti at "Let’s Have A Catch” organized by Ansonia’s Rich Marazzi which will return to Nolan Field at 11 a.m. today. Everyone is welcome!

Just dig out and bring your baseball glove, a ball if you have one, and show up at the Nolan Field baseball diamond.

After the 15-20 minute catch session, Marazzi will host his Silver Sluggers' forum, an open discussion regarding random topics about baseball, under the field house roof.

Those attending the Silver Sluggers baseball discussion are encouraged to bring folding chairs. Bottled water is also suggested.

The event is open for either Silver Sluggers forum discussion and/or playing catch.

DERBY - Derby Public Library's Silver Sluggers will gather via Zoom at 10 a.m. July 22 to talk baseball. 

Meetings are facilitated by radio talk show host, author, and Major League Baseball Rules Consultant Rich Marazzi of Ansonia. 

Each session includes trivia contests, videos, lively conversation, and more. 

All ages, from rookies through veterans, are invited to join Rich and his group of Silver Sluggers.

ANSONIA - Attention all future AHS baseball players!

Our staff and players will be hosting a free baseball clinic at Nolan Field from 10 a.m. to noon July 31.

If your son lives in Ansonia and will be in 6th, 7th or 8th grade in the fall, sign up! No experience needed.
