From the 'Turnback Tuesday' archives: '55 flood at drive-in theater in Derby

This week's "Turnback Tuesday" features a photo of the drive-in movie theater during the 1955 flood. It was located on 20 Division St. in Derby, where McDonald's and BJ's Wholesale Club now reside. The theater had opened in July of 1953 and thus was only open 2 years before the flood occurred. After the flood, the screen and concession stand were repaired and they remained in operation until the 1960s.
Thanks goes to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week.

Ansonia Public Schools, Ansonia Police working together to ensure safety

*This information was posted on Ansonia Public Schools' Facebook page late Thursday:

September 5, 2024
Ansonia, CT – Ansonia Public Schools and the Ansonia Police Department are working together to ensure the safety and security of our students, staff, and community. While there was no incident involving a weapon at any of our schools today, the Ansonia Police Department is actively investigating a matter that occurred on the evening of September 4, 2024.
Out of an abundance of caution, and with the safety of our students and staff being our top priority, there will be an increased police presence at Ansonia Middle School. We want to reassure the community that this precautionary measure is being taken to provide an added layer of security and to foster a safe and positive learning environment.
We are committed to maintaining open communication with our students, parents, and community members, and we will continue to work closely with the Ansonia Police Department as they conduct their investigation. While there are posts on social media reporting there was a gun in the Ansonia Middle School, that information is incorrect and we ask that people refrain posting second hand unverified information.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Ansonia Public Schools or the Ansonia Police Department. We thank the community for their ongoing support and cooperation.
