Boy Scout Troop 3 in Derby to hold 28th annual Super Bowl Sub sale

DERBY - Boy Scout Troop 3, Derby knows a thing or two about the Super Bowl and about making delicious submarine sandwiches.

Super Bowl I and II champion Bob Skoronski, who was a captain of the Green Bay Packers, is an alumnus of the Derby Troop. Also, the Scouts have held a Super Bowl Sub sale for the past 28 years.
The Derby scouts are taking orders for one-foot subs ($7.50) and five-foot party subs ($65). They will be made to order and will be home delivered Feb. 4 anywhere in the Lower Naugatuck Valley.
The fundraiser will assist boys in attending summer camp at Housatonic Council BSA's Edmund D. Strang Scout Reservation in Goshen. Orders due by Jan. 31 and forms are available at www.troop3derby.org.

Macaroni dinner to benefit St. Mary-St. Michael School in Derby

DERBY - Join Marc Garofalo and his Kitchen Krew at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 10 for a dinner to benefit St. Mary-St. Michael School.
The dinner will be held at St. Michael Church hall, 75 Derby Ave.

The menu will consist of macaroni, meatballs, salad, bread, dessert, soft drinks, coffee, and tea.
Tickets are $10 per person.


Reservations may be made by calling St. Michael Rectory, 203-734-0005, or by responding on Facebook to this event invite.
Please respond as soon as possible as seating is limited.

Valley libraries to mark 'Take Your Child to the Library Day' Feb. 3

At Seymour Public Library, 46 Church St.:

"February 3rd is National Take Your Child to the Library Day! We will be celebrating with an all day drop-in craft table. We will also be showing the animated film of Harold and the Purple Crayon at 11 a.m.! 
"The first 48 families who come in to the library will receive a FREE copy of Harold and the Purple Crayon, donated by "A Harold" to every library in Connecticut!"
Information about Take Your Child to the Library Day is posted on the Derby Public Library website:
"Individually scheduled events throughout the day [Feb. 3] for ages 3-11 at 10 a.m. (Turn It Up! Music & Movement program for ages 3-6) and 11 a.m.(Story/Craft Time for ages 3-7) a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (STEM Construction Zone Lego/Keva building blocks program for ages 3-11). 

Ongoing non-time specific activities throughout the day include: a scavenger hunt, crafts, a raffle, refreshments, and more!
All programs are free and open to the public.
Snow date is Feb. 10. 
The Library is at 313 Elizabeth St., Derby.

From 5-5:45 p.m. children of all ages and their families are invited to play group party games and board games during an evening of fun at the library!

NHSO Brass Quintet, zoo join for concert at Shelton Intermediate School

SHELTON - The New Haven Symphony Orchestra's Brass Quintet joins forces with Bridgeport’s Beardsley Zoo at 2 p.m. Feb. 18 for an afternoon of animals and music at Shelton Intermediate School.

The Brass Quintet will perform The Tortoise and the Hare.
Study how the motion of these musical selections mimics how animals move in real life!


Admission is free.


Shelton Intermediate School is located at 675 Constitution Blvd. North.

Learn about maple sugaring in March at Ansonia Nature Center


ANSONIA - A very long time ago, the native people of the northeastern part of the country shared their sweet tree know-how with the newcomers from Europe. 
Join us at 11 a.m. March 3 as the Ansonia Nature Center staff presents an introduction to making maple syrup the old-fashioned way, and help us to choose just the right tree for tapping into this sweet treat! 

Fee is $6 per person. Please call 203-736-1053 in advance to register. 
The event is for all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Nature Center is at 10 Deerfield Road.
