Seymour to hold food drive at polling places on Election Day Tuesday
"The town [of Seymour] will be holding a food drive on Election Day to benefit the Seymour/Oxford Food Bank.
"Boxes will be placed outside of each polling place. We ask that everyone who comes to vote, to please consider bringing something to help those less fortunate.

5th annual Vicki Soto 5K is today in Stratford
The event benefits the Vicki Soto Memorial Fund to support educational initiatives in Stratford.
Vicki Soto lost her life protecting her first grade students during a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012.
Derby High donates funds for hurricane relief to American Red Cross

DERBY - Derby High School senior Chase Boulton recently organized a fundraising campaign for hurricane relief. He was assisted by DHS senior Victoria Ramirez.
The campaign was started to benefit Houston hurricane relief efforts, but fundraising continued to assist relief efforts for victims of all hurricanes.
Chase said waking up and seeing the news reports motivated him to take action. If something like this happened to his community he would want someone to do the same, he said. Victoria said, “Chase’s passion for supporting the relief effort inspired me to get involved in the cause as well.”
The students organized various events to bolster support.
They held a cut-a-thon at Maria’s Hair Gallery in Derby.
They circulated a donation bucket at football games and received donations from local residents, including Republican Town Committee members.
CironeFriedburg Accounting and Tax Consulting firm in Bethel also made a donation.
Victoria’s mother, Teri Pough, works at the firm and assisted in the fund-raising.
Derby High School students made donations and held a “hat day” fundraiser.
Derby High School Principal Martin Pascale said, “I was very impressed with Chase’s motivation to help others impacted by these disastrous weather events.”
On Oct. 20 Chase and Victoria presented Sharon Escoffery, Red Cross volunteer, with a $2,842 check at Derby High School.
Superintendent of Schools Matthew Conway said, “This is a perfect example of what happens when you let youth leaders take the lead. They will lead and become role models for others to follow.”
