CT Foodshare to visit St. Mary's Church parking lot Tuesday in Derby

The CT Foodshare truck will return to St. Mary’s Church parking lot Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 2:15-3 p.m.
No income limits, no questions asked...just bring a bag to receive some food. Next visit after that is Feb. 11.
Please note that, per CT Foodshare's rules, THERE WILL NO LONGER BE ANY PLACE HOLDING IN LINE by arriving very early and putting bags, carts, etc. along the church wall. At 2 p.m., numbered tickets will be handed out to guests who are physically in line at the "TICKET" sign IN THE PARKING LOT. The ticket sign will move to different spots every two weeks.

From the 'Turnback Tuesday' archives: Hubbell's Shoe Store

The building with a crowd gathering around it is Hubbell’s Shoe Store, located in the A.H. & C.B. Alling Building on Main and Elizabeth Streets in Derby.

The crowd of about 600 people assembled to see a woman be hypnotized in the store window. Interestingly enough, the same hypnotist also performed up the street at the Sterling Opera House.

The photo is derived from an old glass negative taken by photographer Myles P. Fillingham of Ansonia, circa early 1900s.
