Fall foliage found on hilltop in Ansonia

 Is it just me or is there still a lot of green on the trees for mid-October? Apparently we have to wait for more colors to appear!

ANSONIA - Mayor David S. Cassetti cut the ribbon Tuesday for another downtown business.
TAD-G Fitness Center opened their doors at 386 East Main St.

The owner and personal trainer is Terry DiGiacomo-Galla who has over 20 years' experience in the fitness industry. 
The new center will focus on women’s fitness with one-on-one personal training, Tabat bootcamp, Kettlebell classes, circuit training classes and other focused fitness programs.  
“I am excited about the grand opening of TAD-G’s. This is a great addition to our business community. And it’s great to have a fitness center right here on East Main Street. I encourage residents and others to sign up. Terry will definitely whip you into shape,” Cassetti said.

DiGiacomo-Galla offers targeted programs as well to help with weight loss, building muscle mass, increasing strength and flexibility, and decreasing body fat.

Derby High School to host first food truck fest fundraiser


Griffin Hospital in Derby to offer free smoking cessation sessions

DERBY - Looking to kick the smoking habit?
Griffin Hospital is helping members of the community prepare to quit smoking with a free smoking cessation program starting Nov. 18.

“That’s It – Learn to Quit” teaches a variety of methods to help individuals quit smoking. 
The program consists of Wednesday meetings from 5:30-7 p.m. scheduled for Nov. 18, Dec. 2, 9, and 16 at the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital, 350 Seymour Ave.

“The goal of the program is to help you learn how to quit,” said Carrie O’Malley, RN, a co-coordinator of the program. “There are different methods of quitting and managing nicotine withdrawal. If one method didn’t work for you in the past we’ll help you understand all your options.”

Through group discussion and interactive activities, participants learn how to develop a quit plan that addresses their personal behaviors and habit. 
Strategies to manage nicotine withdrawal, behaviors, triggers, and urges are all discussed as well as weight control and stress management.

Participants must be prepared to attend all four sessions.

Comedy night slated at Strand Theater in Seymour

SEYMOUR - Join the Valley's newly-formed Sterling Lion Theater Company and CYRiously Funny Productions Nov. 14 at the legendary Strand Theater, 165 Main St. for a night of stand-up comedy and improv.

Featuring the stand-up acts of Rich "The Claw" Cyr and many of his hilarious Connecticut-based comedian friends, Comprovedy proceeds will go to the arts and arts education in the Valley. 


Aside from sets by several talented comedians in one show, Comprovedy also will include live improv games with the comedians and Sterling Lion's own improv group.

Tour of cemetery in Shelton to uncover fascinating stories

        SHELTON - The oldest cemetery still in existence in the city will be the site of an informative walk Oct. 24.
        Located off Constitution Boulevard, where it is tucked 
away adjacent to Route 8, Long Hill Burying Ground holds some fascinating stories dating back to the 1720s. 
It is the final resting place for many members of Shelton’s first families.

Marty Coughlin, President of both the Shelton Historical Society and the Long Hill Cemetery Association, will present the program at 10:30 a.m. and will repeat it at 2 p.m. In case of rain, the event will be held Oct. 25.

        A $5 admission for adults will benefit both organizations; however, admission is free for students. It is recommended to wear sturdy shoes. Parking along Long Hill Avenue is very limited.

The Shelton Historical Society maintains a complex of six historic structures at Shelton History Center, 70 Ripton Road. The office is open year-round by appointment for research and tours.

Friends of Ansonia Library to hold book, bake sale

ANSONIA - The Friends of the Ansonia Library will hold a book and bake sale at the Ansonia Library from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 7. 
The library is at 53 S. Cliff St.
Christ Episcopal Church across the street from the library is having its annual holiday fair the same day, so come and spend some time at both events!


The following home-baked items are needed: cookies, brownies, breads, cakes, and pies. 

If you would like to display your baking talents, Nov. 7 is the day to do it! 
Please wrap and price your baked goods (note anything containing nuts) and bring to the library by 8:30 a.m. the day of the sale.
