Derby official shares sad news of icon's passing

A message from Town Clerk Marc Garofalo:

We regret to inform you that Lina Lucarelli, co-founder of the world famous Roseland Apizza passed away on Saturday at the age of 92.

Mrs. Lucarelli was an icon of Derby having served generations and thousands of hungry customers at the venerable Hawthorne Avenue restaurant.  Her impact on the community will long be remembered by the high quality of pizza and dinners served, and the tradition of excellence for which Roseland is known.

Please join Mayor Anita Dugatto and the entire City of Derby in expressing our deepest sympathy to the Lucarelli and Scatolini family on the loss of their matriarch.
May she rest in peace in Pizza Heaven!

Mayor Dugatto commented that “Everyone knows that the best pizza in the world is made right here in Derby at Roseland.  Lina’s leadership as owner, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend made her one of the respected role models for women throughout the State.  She will be missed by all who knew her.”

Tips shared for staying safe in cold weather

I saw this list posted on Facebook over the weekend and thought I'd share.

Temperatures Tuesday are expected to get into the 50s in southern Connecticut, but stay tuned. The season is far from over.

I unplugged, used the stove, and made a Valentine's treat

This is what happened when I stayed off the computer for an hour this morning. I made Valentine's Day doughnuts, a day late.

It was my first time ever making doughnuts...I used an easy recipe I found on Facebook.
The other two people in the house tell me they are quite good. Or as Ralph said, "Really, really good."

Unplug today? Yay or nay?

Happy Presidents' Day!

Unplug today? George and Abe would no doubt approve.

Many people have a holiday today, and I was considering taking a holiday from the computer.
But I really don't know if I can stay away all day.

If I did, I could do some laundry, read a book, bake a cake, make a nice dinner for my family ... or if I stay right here I could get some work done on our next Valley Voice newsletter.

While I debate this radical idea, I'll share the link to issue #3 here:

I hope you enjoy it!
