Griffin Center for Healthy Living in Oxford to hold demo on pickling basics


OXFORD - The Griffin Center for Healthy Living Teaching Kitchen will host a free cooking demonstration on the nutritional benefits of pickling.

Pickling Basics will be held Aug. 20 at 5 p.m. at The Griffin Center for Healthy Living at Quarry Walk, 300 Oxford Road.


Former Executive Director of Massaro Farm and sustainable nutrition expert Caty Poole will discuss the history of pickling and the health benefits of turning fresh produce intro shelf stable products. Poole will demonstrate pickling with both sweet and sour brines and talk about the many fresh items, including fruit, that can be preserved this way.

Space is limited for this event, so registration is required.

Free outdoor showing of 'Hamilton' slated Saturday in Beacon Falls


BEACON FALLS - Join us at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 at the Beacon Falls Recreation Field for a special outdoor showing of Hamilton in honor of America’s 250th anniversary!
The movie will begin at dusk. Bring your own chairs, blankets, snacks, and drinks, then settle in for a night under the stars.

ANSONIA - The Ansonia Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing juvenile, Yuridea Funez-Cruz, age 17, who was last spoken to on Aug. 2, 2026.

Yuridea is described as being approximately 5'3" to 5'4" tall, weighing 118 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black leggings, and black sneakers.
