Boating safety course slated in Oxford

OXFORD - The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering a one day Boating/Personal Watercraft Safety Course from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 20 at the American Legion Post, 43 Oxford Road. 
Admission is $60.
Upon completion you will be able to obtain your Boating/PWC license/certificate from the state DEEP, allowing you to operate a vessel and/or PWC. 
The About Boating Safety Course exceeds the state requirements that allow you to obtain that license/certificate. 
Topics include safety, Connecticut state law, trailering, waterways, canoes, motor boats, sailboats, PWCs, just to name a few.

Walk-ins are welcomed. Lunch is included.

Seymour shops ready to celebrate first Saturday


This month's First Saturday event will be held from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. this Saturday in downtown Seymour.

Quoting from a Facebook event page:

"Enjoy First Saturday with live music, shopping, and refreshments, friends, and neighbors. Pick up a map at any of the shops downtown after 5 p.m. and search for treasures at each one. 
"Visit them all and you will be entered for a prize from this month's featured destination, Wildflour Confections."
