 I needed to leave the Valley (!) Thursday morning and when I was on Route 1 returning to Ansonia I made a quick stop at Silver Sands State Park in Milford. 

Memoir is topic of book discussion at Huntington Branch Library in Shelton

SHELTON - The Huntington Branch Library book discussion selection for March is "Saturday Night Widows" by Becky Aikmen. 
The discussion will be held from 1-2 p.m. March 8.
This is a transcendent and infectiously wise memoir which explores surprising new discoveries about how people experience grief and loss. 

April’s selected title is "And the Mountains Echoed" by Khaled Hossieni. 

Books will be available at the Huntington Branch Library, 41 Church St.

Massaro Farm to hold spring garden workshop at Derby Public Library

DERBY - Join farmers Becca and Dan from Massaro Community Farm at 6:30 p.m. March 18 at Derby Public Library as they talk about best practices to get ready for gardening this spring.

This workshop will cover starting your own seeds, caring for and transplanting seedlings, preparing your garden bed, and more.


Seating is limited; registration is required online or by calling 203-736-1482.

Shops at Seymour ready to host 'First Saturday' celebration


SEYMOUR - Happy March! Come to downtown Seymour for our monthly "First Saturday" celebration!

Our shops will be open late and serving up some refreshments (and deals!)

Lizzie's Corner Consignment and Gifts will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday with costumes, snacks, and a reading by local author Anthony Paolucci at 1 p.m.

Strand Theater in Seymour will be hosting "Treehouse Comedy Night" featuring Jackie Martling, Brian Barganier, and Regina DeCicco. (8-10 p.m.)

Tickled Pink will host a meet the author and book reading of Paw Elementary with local author Katie Melko (11 a.m.)

Bingo Night on tap at Center Stage Theatre in Shelton


Create Pysanky eggs at Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton

SHELTON - Plumb Memorial Library will offer a craft program on how to create Pysanky eggs. 


The program will be held at 9 a.m. March 30 in the Main Meeting Room on the upper floor of the library.
Debora Semonich will teach the ancient Eastern European art of decorating Easter eggs. 
Participants at this hands on beginners hands-on workshop will create their own Pysanka to take home with them. 
Demonstrated will be how to write your design on the egg with wax, dye it, and remove the wax to reveal the colorful finished egg.
Registration is required.
