Center Stage Theatre in Shelton to present 'Oklahoma!'

SHELTON -
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, setting the standards and rules of modern musical theatre.
Center Stage Theatre will present 11 performances of the classic musical 'Oklahoma!' from Feb.16-25. The theater is located at 54 Grove St.
Tickets range from $18-$50. View the full schedule and purchase tickets at centerstageshelton.org.
In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination, and the promise of a new land.
This beloved classic was revived on Broadway several years ago with a contemporary, updated rendition of the classic story.
This production will be similarly reimagined, including a modified seating chart which includes both regular theater seating and VIP Picnic Table Seats putting you in the middle of the action with a Box Social picnic treat served by the cast during intermission.

Godspell

Music and Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz

Directed by Justin Zenchuk and John Corraro

June 11 - June 27

Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden); and it took the world by storm. A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life. Boasting a score with chart-topping songs, a book by a visionary playwright (John-Michael Tebelak) and a feature film, Godspell is a sensation that continues to touch audiences.

Wedding Singer

Featuring the Youth CONNection

Book by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy; Music by Matthew Sklar; Lyrics by Chad Beguelin

Directed by Justin Zenchuk

Choreographed by Robert Merante

July 23 - August 1

The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room. Based on the hit Adam Sandler movie, The Wedding Singer's sparkling new score does for the '80s what Hairspray did for the '60s. It's 1985, and rock star wannabe, Robbie Hart, is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer. He's the life of the party until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. As luck would have it, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and, unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.

Nunsense A-Men!

By Dan Goggin

Directed and Choreographed by Katie Sedlock

September 3 - September 19

The show is a fundraiser put on by the Little Sisters of Hoboken to raise money to bury sisters accidentally poisoned by the convent cook, Sister Julia (Child of God). Nunsense A-Men! is the original Nunsense show with all of the characters being portrayed by male musical comedy performers. Think of it as “Mrs. Doubtfire enters the Convent.” Done totally seriously, this show is, to quote a critic, "no drag". A whole new layer of comedy surfaces with lines like “The guys in the old neighborhood still can’t believe I became a nun!” To quote the New York Times: “A change of habit, boy oh, boy!”

Boeing Boeing

By Marc Camoletti

Directed by Scott Brill

October 8 - October 24

A hit comedy similar in vein to Shakespeare’s comedies of merry misadventures and mistaken identities, Boeing Boeing tells the exploits of French bachelor Bernard and his lovely female flight attendants. Three flight attendants, to be exact, from three different countries: and they all believe they’re engaged to Bernard! In the past, Bernard has been able to juggle these women due to his detailed timetable of his fiancés’ flight schedules. When the situation changes and all of the women end up at his apartment on the same day, Bernard (with help from his bewildered friend Robert) struggles to keep them from learning the truth. Will the lying lothario be able to keep up this charade, or will a disaster occur? As they say: all’s well that ends well!

Irving Berlin's White Christmas

Music and Lyrics by Irving Berlin

Book by David Ives and Paul Blake

Directed and Choreographed by Al Recchia

December 3 - December 19

Veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis have a successful song-and-dance act after World War II. With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which just happens to be owned by Bob and Phil's former army commander.
With a dazzling score featuring well-known standards including “Blue Skies,” “I Love A Piano,” “How Deep Is the Ocean” and the perennial title song, White Christmas is an uplifting musical sure to put you in the holiday spirit!
