Oxford resident creates 'Bookworm Bottles'

OXFORD - Ever wonder what to do with an empty bottle? 
Resident Kate Mirabella has, and you can see how she used her creativity to make 'Bookworm Bottles' on display at Lizzie's Corner Consignment and Gifts at 19 Bank St. in Seymour.

Mirabella recently started making the literary-themed bottles. 
Her mother, Elizabeth Pisano, opened Lizzie's Corner last month. 
Pisano makes beautifully lit bottles. Her business is "Re-Designed by Elizabeth." I'm happy to say I won one of her creations in October during a raffle on Seymour Pink Day.

Snow White and Rapunzel are in the house! 
Talk about bringing back childhood memories. These labels certainly do that.

And, I must agree with the label at left that says, "It's Always Tea-Time!

The moral of the story is: Go to Lizzie's Corner and check out the crafts and consigned items, including Kate's creative work.

Ansonia PD: Arrests imminent in Hiltop break-ins

Hello Folks,

I talked to Officer Rick today about the break-ins on Beverly and Webster and he was able to assure us that the Ansonia PD is engaged in an active investigation as we speak regarding these burglaries. 

They are confident that there will be arrests in the very near future.

Officer Rick Esposito:

The Ansonia PD urges everyone to be diligent to lock your doors and windows even when you're home.
* Don't leave anything of value near a window at ground level for a thief to see!
* Don't leave you're garage doors open when you drive away from home!
* Lock your car doors, even at home!
* Don't leave anything of value in your car for a thief to see!
* Don't walk away from your car if its running unless it's locked!!! That means warming it up, even at home, or stopping for gas, coffee, or snacks etc.

Car thieves take advantage of this opportunity if cars are left unattended!!!!

Breakfast in Shelton to benefit fund at Valley Community Foundation

SHELTON -Tickets are now on sale for the 12th annual Joseph A. Pagliaro Sr. Easter Egg Hunt/Pancake Breakfast to be held from 8:30-11 a.m. March 19 at the Boys and Girls Club, One Positive Place. 

Come join us with your family for breakfast, pictures with the Easter Bunny, inflatable slides, raffle prizes, a magic show with Danny Magic, and the Easter egg hunt. 

All proceeds go to the Joseph A. Pagliaro Sr. Family Fund, a component fund of the Valley Community Foundation.

Cost is $6 per ticket for adults and children. No tickets sold at the door.

Griffin Hospital, Lions Club slate free forum on low vision

Griffin Hospital and Lions Club of Connecticut will host 'Taking a Look at Low Vision' Feb. 25./Contributed phto

DERBY - Griffin Hospital and Lions Club of Connecticut will present “Taking a Look at Low Vision,” a free talk about Low Vision, its causes, and therapy options at 6 p.m. Feb. 25 at the hospital, 130 Division St.

Low Vision is a chronic medical condition affecting one in six adults over 45 years of age in which an individual has a degree of vision loss that can no longer be corrected by eye glasses, medicine or surgery. 

Individuals with low vision are not blind; however, they often have difficulty using their remaining vision efficiently and effectively enough to complete needed activities.

Dr. Joseph Sokol of Connecticut Eye Specialists in Shelton, will explain Low Vision and its causes, including macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. 

Staff from Griffin Hospital’s Occupational Therapy Department will present rehabilitation options for those diagnosed with Low Vision, and representatives from the Lions Club will talk about Lions Low Vision Centers which provide free adaptive equipment and devices.

Griffin Hospital recently opened a Lions Low Vision Center at 350 Seymour Ave.

Free educational forums
This program is part of a series of free, educational forums hosted by the Community Health Resource Center in an effort to help improve the health of the community.

Donations sought for Ansonia Library book sale

ANSONIA - The Friends of the Ansonia Library will hold a book sale from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 19.

Book donations are always needed.

Spring cleaning is coming up; please remember the Friends of the Library when cleaning off your bookshelves at home!

The Library is at 53 S. Cliff St.
