Veterans' benefits topic of talk at Shelton Senior Center
SHELTON - The Valley Senior Services Council will present the second in its caregiver series “Veterans Benefits" from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at the Shelton Senior Center, 81 Wheeler St.
The program will be presented by Veteran Service Officer Ramon Agosto, who works for the state of Connecticut.
Learn what services are available to veterans and their eligible spouses.
A light supper will be served. RSVP required by calling 203-924-9324.

Seymour now equipped with emergency animal shelter

"Seymour is now home to this mobile emergency animal shelter [pictured above]. This regional asset will provide support for several local communities but will be staged in Seymour. This unit carries bulk quantities of cages, food and water bowls and snares. Use of this equipment at shelters will be managed by our CERT team with training programs provided by the Region/State."

“Lifestyle Transitions at Wesley Heights” offers specialized assisted living in a secure, supportive environment for those living with memory loss.
The program is designed to support residents with cognitive impairment by engaging them in life and activities within the larger Wesley Heights community and providing encouragement, friendship, and a feeling of security. It also focuses on developing daily routines for successfully managing individualized physical, social and cognitive challenges.
The “Lifestyle Transitions” program space encompasses existing apartments and newly renovated gathering areas, including a library, family-style kitchen, living room area, laundry nook and enclosed outdoor courtyard. Safe and quiet space for reading, relaxation, and dining, and other stimulating activities such as baking, gardening, exercise, art classes, musical entertainment is also available.
Unique to Wesley Village, “Lifestyle Transitions” offers a mission-based, relationship-centered approach to care, as well as: affordable pricing, a wander-management system, 24-hour staffing with caregivers trained by the Alzheimer’s Association, on-site physician services, engaging activities, a variety of apartment styles for individuals or couples, education and support services for residents and families, and a specialized design to maximize independence.

Ansonia to salute veterans at parade Sunday
'Star Spangled' event planned
ANSONIA - The city will host the annual Memorial Day Parade Sunday. Residents are encouraged to gather along the parade route and on Main Street to join Ansonia’s salute to our country’s courageous veterans.
“The Memorial Day Parade is an Ansonia tradition,” said Mayor David S. Cassetti. “It’s a wonderful opportunity gather with family and friends to recognize the sacrifice made by so many brave men and women in defense of our country.”
The parade will start at 2 p.m. at the Nolan Field Sports Complex on Wakelee Avenue. The parade route will be as follows: south on Wakelee Avenue, East on Jackson Street, south on Maple Street, over the Maple Street Bridge and then south on Main Street ending at the Big Y supermarket at the corner of Main and West Main Streets.
Officers will be putting out No Parking reminders on vehicles parked along the parade route.

Please remove vehicles from the parade route by 11 a.m. Sunday. Any vehicles not removed by 11 a.m. will be towed from the parade route.
Roadways near the area of the parade route will be blocked off by 1 p.m. to allow time to make the parade route safe from vehicular traffic. The parade will end at approximately 4 p.m. and all roadways will be reopened.

Community choir performs inspiring music at Naugatuck church
'Sounds of Liberty' concert
NAUGATUCK - My husband, Ralph, and I attended a most enjoyable concert Sunday afternoon performed by the Naugatuck Community Choir.
A friend of mine sings in the choir and invited us to attend.
The concert, Sounds of Liberty, was performed in the sanctuary of St. Hedwig's Church.
The choir also presented the concert Friday at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Waterbury.
Kudos to music director Mark C. Silva of Waterbury, accompanist Susan Anthony-Klein of Brookfield, and all of the singers for putting on a great performance.
Members hail from Naugatuck, Waterbury, Beacon Falls, Oxford, Seymour, Shelton, and several other surrounding communities.
The group is open to all who want to sing and be a part of a choral community.
No auditions!
Members rehearse at 7 p.m. Mondays at Naugatuck High School.
