Seymour cheerleaders take 1st place at competition in Fairfield

The Seymour High School varsity cheerleaders competed last weekend at the Ludlowe Open hosted by Fairfield Ludlowe High School. 
The Lady Wildcats brought home the first place trophy in the All-Girl Varsity Advanced Division along with receiving the Grand Champion Award for receiving the highest score of the day. 
The Wildcats were up against 17 other Varsity teams for the Grand Champion Award.

Teen Maker Space offered at Derby Public Library



DERBY - The Derby Public Library invites all young adults ages 12 to 17 to Teen Maker Space from 3-4:30 p.m. Feb. 27.
Available resources include “Green Screen” video production, 3D design programs, 3D doodle pens, Legos, and more! 
Light refreshments will be provided. 
The Library is at 313 Elizabeth St.

Facebook memory offers 'Turnback Tuesday' about Valley photographer

Civil War nurse Clara Barton
This week's "Turnback Tuesday" features Clara Barton Tomlinson Drew. 
Clara was born in Seymour on Nov. 25, 1867 and was named after Clara Barton, the Civil War nurse who created the Red Cross. 
Clara Tomlinson moved to "Derby" (now part of Ansonia) as a young girl and later, in 1888, married John Wilbur Drew. The Drews resided at 26 New St. where Clara (Tomlinson) Drew became a pioneer among women photographers. She operated a photography studio for decades out of her home. 

This is a photo of Clara Barton, the Civil War nurse, that was taken by Clara Barton Drew, the photographer, in 1909. 
Clara Barton Drew died Feb. 21, 1946 at the age of 79.
