Derby Public Library slates YA Wednesdays in September



DERBY - On Sept. 9 and 23, from 5-6:30 p.m., Derby Public Library invites young adults ages 12 to 17 to YA Wednesdays, Teen Game Time, as Nintendo Wii and tabletop games are available.

Derby Public Library to host youth activities, teen advisory board


DERBY - On Wednesdays, Aug. 5 and 12, from 1-2:30 p.m., Derby Public Library invites young adults ages 12 to 17 to YA Wednesdays, Teen Game Time as Nintendo Wii & tabletop games are available. 

These are “Plant a Seed, Read!” Teen Summer Club events! Attendees earn credit towards prizes. Light refreshments will be provided. 

Teen Advisory Board

On Aug. 26, from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Derby Public Library invites all young adults ages 12 to 17 to Teen Advisory Board meeting where attendees are encouraged to voice their ideas for improving and expanding young adult library services and teen programming. 

Focus will include participant input that contributes to the library fulfilling its mission of quality-of-life enhancements in: knowledge; entertainment; and citizenship.

Teens invited to Derby Neck Library Monday for puzzles, games


Sharpen your mind and unwind: Mondays are for puzzles, games, and more!

Join us in the Teen Space from 4:30-6 p.m. Monday for a mix of brain teasers, strategy, and friendly competition! Here you can piece together giant jigsaw puzzles, sharpen your mind with Wordle and Sudoku, challenge a friend to regular chess or laser chess, or even dive into the world of Magic: The Gathering!

Whether you’re here to relax, think hard, or try something new, there’s always a challenge (and a new friend) waiting for you!

Derby Neck Library hosts Yap and Snack for Teens


DERBY - Hang out after school in the Teen Space at Derby Neck Library from 2-4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Enjoy snacks while watching movies or anime, playing console and PC games, making crafts, or joining a tabletop game. 
Teens can also earn volunteer hours by helping the Teen Librarian with take-and-make projects.

Movies, anime, and other visual media shown during Yap and Snack will be selected with a goal of staying within a PG–13 rating whenever possible. We encourage parents and guardians to be aware that some content may include themes suitable for teens ages 13 and up.

Derby Public Library offers variety of resources for teens



DERBY - With libraries across the country celebrating "Teen-Tober" this month and with school back in full swing, just a reminder to our YA/Teens that Derby Public Library has a plethora of helpful resources for your academic and real-world aspirations:
They include online databases/apps such as:
- LearningExpress Library™ - for improved proficiency in math, science, technology and social studies; for SAT prep; to expand computer & workplace skills
- College Droid for students interested in pursuing academics after high school
- Teen Book Cloud - an online collection of e-books, enhanced novels, graphic novels, videos and audio books with an amazing range of content for all reading levels.
- Mango(R) - to prepare teens for realistic conversations and communication in over 70 world languages.
Plus, our on-site Teen Zone is replete with YA fiction and non-fiction books, dedicated PCs, free Wi-Fi, and mobile device workstations.
And, of course, there are always our ongoing Game Times and Advisory Board Meetings to help teens decompress and have a say in what programs they'd like to see held at DPL.

Seymour Public Library to host 2 book clubs for youth







SEYMOUR - Seymour Public Library has two book clubs that will be starting in September!
The first is a Battle of the Books club for children in grades 4 and 5.
This book club will focus on the Intermediate Nutmeg Nominees that will be the focus of the elementary schools' Battle of the Books in the Spring. The book for the Sept. 11 meeting is available at the front desk.
The second is our Teen Book Club for grades 7 and up. Books will be chosen from the Young Adult section of the library. The book for the Sept. 4 meeting is available at the front desk.
Registration is required for both book clubs. A minimum registration of three participants is required for the book clubs. If we don't meet the minimum, the book club will be canceled.
