Derby Public Library's virtual lunchtime book discussion to feature thriller


DERBY - Derby Public Library virtual lunchtime book discussion slated at 12:30 p.m. June 30 features The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. 
The Silent Patient is a mix of Hitchcockian suspense, Agatha Christie plotting, and Greek tragedy. 
It is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband - and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.

Kellogg Environmental Center in Derby to host 'Animal Architects' presentation

DERBY - Saturday morning programs will start again tomorrow at the Kellogg Environmental Center, 500 Hawthorne Ave.  

Join Center staff under the tent at 10 a.m. Saturday to learn about Animal Architects. 

Families and individuals will enjoy this short presentation which includes examples of wondrous structures built by wildlife as homes or when short periods of protection were needed.  

Various examples of insect homes, bird nests, and mammal creations will be shared from the Center’s collections.  

After the presentation, families are encouraged to stay outdoors on a self-guided excursion searching for other animal architect examples in the fields and woods across the street at Osbornedale State Park. 

Dress for the weather and remember to follow instructions on the bottles of sunscreen and insect repellant.

Derby Historical Society to dedicate tree, plant herbs at David Humphreys House


ANSONIA - Come and join the Derby Historical Society Saturday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. as we dedicate a new tree, commemorate the Housatonic Council Boy Scouts' 100th-anniversary, and plant colonial herbs into our new raised garden beds. The event will be held at the Gen. David Humphreys House, 37 Elm St.
Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center’s Ali Rubelmann will be here with nature crafts, and the 6th Connecticut Regiment will be here in a small Revolutionary War encampment.

Mistress Gunn will be leading the herb planting  immediately following the tree dedication.
