Griffin Health Center at Quarry Walk in Oxford to present cooking with herbs demo
OXFORD - Griffin Center for Healthy Living Teaching Kitchen will host a free program on the health benefits of culinary herbs.
Cooking with Healthy Herbs will be held April 17 at 5 p.m. at The Griffin Center for Healthy Living at Quarry Walk, 300 Oxford Road.
In recognition of National Move More Month, former executive director of Massaro Farm and sustainable nutrition expert Caty Poole will discuss how herbs can invigorate individuals to be more active, the pros and cons of growing vs. buying herbs, the difference in using fresh or dry herbs. She will also demonstrate the basics of making Spring Potato Nettle Soup and Meadow Magic Tea.
Space is limited for this event; registration is required.

Derby Historical Society to dedicate tree, plant herbs at David Humphreys House
ANSONIA - Come and join the Derby Historical Society Saturday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. as we dedicate a new tree, commemorate the Housatonic Council Boy Scouts' 100th-anniversary, and plant colonial herbs into our new raised garden beds. The event will be held at the Gen. David Humphreys House, 37 Elm St.
Mistress Gunn will be leading the herb planting immediately following the tree dedication.

Sign up now for subscription program at Massaro Farm in Woodbridge
WOODBRIDGE - It might still feel like winter outside but Massaro Community Farm staff is reporting for duty and they are busy planting crops that will yield the abundant produce for our subscription program of organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers beginning in June.
The farm is located at 41 Ford Road on the Ansonia town line.
Signing up now is an essential aspect of the CSA model. By doing so you provide the necessary funds to support the farm operation, lighten the farm staff load during the height of the growing season, and enjoy a weekly bountiful harvest throughout the season.

Spring festival
This unofficial opening of the season will include the sale of organic vegetable seedlings, flowers and perennials.

The farm fulfills its mission by offering the sale of produce to seasonal subscribers, and to restaurants and farmer’s markets; by running farm-based education for youth and adults, and by holding several events each year.

DEEP to host chef's talk at Kellogg Center in Derby
Calkins is an experienced chef working with local flavors and foods to create seasonal offerings.
This program will highlight the methods of harvest, preservation and use of common herbs, flowers and plants for teas, herbal enhancement of food, spices and rubs. All participants will enjoy this unique session – previous participation is not required.
The herbs and flowers found in gardens have uses that go beyond what is commonly thought.
Drying and fresh materials will be provided for participants to have hands-on experience and to take home and try some new flavors.
This workshop is designed for adults or older children.
Space is limited and registration is required to attend and participate.
