Help Ansonia Nature Center volunteers, learn about invasive plants
ANSONIA - Curious about invasive plants and what they look like in the winter?
Come along at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 22 and help the Nature Center’s Volunteer Conservation Corps find these resilient plants.
Learn how species like barberry, burning bush, and oriental bittersweet continue to spread even when the temperature drops. It's a great opportunity to see how these plants adapt and what we can do to manage them.
All experience levels welcome! 12 years and older welcome! Under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Enjoy full supermoon hike Saturday at Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center
De-spookify the season with an educational night hike under October's full supermoon!
Want to know why animals make so many different creepy noises at night?
Ranger Evelyn sheds a light on this topic with this all-ages program, teaching participants to recognize different nighttime animal noises. Let your eyes adapt to the dark and explore the Nature Center's forest with a hike under the light of the Harvest Moon.
Wear comfortable shoes for walking and dress for the weather. Please meet outside the Nature Center 15 minutes before the start of the hike to get checked in.

Learn about busy life of beavers at Ansonia Nature Center program

The history of the North American beaver is inextricably tied to the history of New England, going back thousands of years.
Few animals can rival the beaver's architectural abilities, which shape the landscape around them.
Learn about this large rodent's fascinating life history, then try making a watertight dam!

Derby Neck Library to host Tales and Trails fun Wednesday

DERBY - Tales and Trails will be at the Osbornedale Pond tomorrow at 11 a.m. Meet in front of the Osborne Homestead Museum [at 500 Hawthorne Ave.] where we will read and learn about frogs and toads before going on an amphibian hunt!

Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center to hold habitat hike for all ages
ANSONIA - Join us at 1 p.m. July 27 at the nature center for a special hike through three different habitats.
The first being one of our Vernal pools, the second being our pond, and the third being our unique forest with an underground spring!
Together, we will spend some time in each habitat discovering some of the different plants and animals that call each their home, as well as learn about what makes each of these habitats so special and important.
This is a FREE, all-ages program (an adult must accompany children).

Learn about Eastern white pine Sunday at Ansonia Nature Center hike
ANSONIA - Did you know our native Eastern white pine is not only one of the most magnificent trees in the forest, but also offers so much - from baskets, to survival! Its tea has more vitamin C than a glass of orange juice.
Join Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center Ranger Dawn at 1 p.m. Sunday on a hike to see how they grow, then return for some tea and a treat made from this tall and mighty tree.
Handouts will be given too!

This Thursday, kids can unleash their inner mad scientist at Weird, Gross, and Cool Science at the Ansonia Library!
It’s spring break—why not let them learn something accidentally educational? Expect weird. Expect gross. Expect “WHAT IS THAT?!” energy.
Hazards: Laughter, messes, and possibly a mutant potato.

Ansonia Nature Center to present Who's Bones? program
This spooky season, get up close to the Ansonia Nature Center's vast collection of animal skulls at 2 p.m. Nov. 2.
Learn how the different types of teeth and the shapes of bones give us clues to identify the animal they belong to. During our investigation, you will dissect an owl pellet to try and identify the bones inside!
For ages 8 and up. Materials fee is $6 per person.

Registration starts Monday for Nature's Explorers at Ansonia Nature Center
Registration opens Sept. 9. Classes run Thursdays, Sept. 26 and Oct. 3, 10, and 17 at 10 a.m.
Join Ranger Dan, ANC Assistant Director, for this program exploring and learning about nature. This class is loosely structured and is geared towards children who are at least 2-years-old, up to age 5 with an adult explorer.
Class is indoors and outdoors, and we end with a light snack.
Space is limited, so click here to register for this program. Please fill out one form per child.
TUITION: $40 per 4-week session (cash or check payable to Ansonia Nature Center).
