STEM Saturday program to focus on Gravity Art at Derby Neck Library

 

STEM Saturdays is our newest children's program offering fun science explorations that help grow understanding about the natural world and reinforce the scientific method as a tool for making meaning out of observations.

STEM Saturdays is an all-ages drop-in program. Stop by the Children's Room any time between 2 and 4 p.m. to try the experiment! 
Topic: This week, we're making Gravity Paintings that imitate rain clouds! 
Learn all about what makes a rain cloud a rain cloud and create your own work of art using watercolor paint and gravity.

Taste the Book program for children slated at Derby Public Library


 

📖🥒 Taste the Book Series: Where every story comes to life with a book, a craft, and a delicious tasting experience! ðŸ¥’📖

Join us for an Earth Day story time featuring The Planet in a Pickle Jar by Martin Stanev, and discover how Grandma has been preserving all the important things on our planet. 
Then, create your own "planet in a pickle jar" using recycled water bottles, glitter, and more. Enjoy a tasty pickle sampling while you read, create, and play. It’s the perfect blend of stories, crafts, and pickled treats!

Read it, Make it, Taste it - Taste the Book and experience the story in every way!

Recommended for ages 3-10, but all are welcome!
Registration required. Inform us of any allergies and/or dietary restrictions upon registering.
Please register each child separately so we know how many friends to expect!

Kids can learn to play Dungeons & Dragons at Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton


SHELTON - Ethereal Lounge and Plumb Library is bringing you a learn to play Dungeons and Dragons. This crash course will give you the knowledge of the rules, characters, and a fun adventure for all to participate. 

This program is for ages 10 and older. Program will be held at Plumb Library Jan. 27, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Refreshments/snacks will be available.

Join Miss Maura as she teaches budding artists a specific art style through unique age-appropriate art projects!

DERBY - Derby Public Library will host a Creating Musical Readers program at 9:15 a.m. this Saturday, April 15.
The NHSO series is geared to ages 4-10 and focuses on a different musician/instrument each month plus a story.
Bassoonist Remy Taghavi and his book, Ralph’s Secret Weapon will be featured.

In honor of Women's History Month, we will read a story about a famous woman artist then we will create a piece of art similar to the type of art this woman is/was famous for.

Ansonia Nature Center slates animal adaptations program

ANSONIA - Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center will present an Animal Adaptations program at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 22.

During this lesson, your children will learn what animals, as living organisms, do to survive through the cold and winter conditions. 
They will learn about how animals adapt to frigid temperatures and are able to conserve body heat. Different types of animals adjust in different ways, using their protective coverings, such as feathers, fur, and even layers of fat, which help insulate them against the cold environment. 
Join Ranger Dawn and do an experiment called “The Blubber Glove” and if weather permits we’ll take a hike too! Dress for the weather. Please register in advance at ansnaturectr@ansoniact.org

Seymour Public Library to host Food Explorers fun today for children

SEYMOUR - Join Food Explorers at 4:30 p.m. today [Monday] to make Southwest Quesadillas with Guacamole (optional) for your family!

You’ll need the following ingredients for this recipe: tortillas, onion, garlic, olive oil, 1 bell pepper, frozen corn, 1 can of beans (Black, Pinto, etc.), shredded Mexican cheese, avocado, lime plus seasoning of your choice (Cumin, Garlic Powder, Chili Flakes, etc.).

Learn about sharks in Seymour Public Library's online program for kids
