Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton to host Instrument Petting Zoo


SHELTON - Join Miss Maura and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra for a fun, children-focused musical experience at the library!
This event is for children ages 4-10, where they can listen, learn about music, and even try out musical instruments.
An orchestra musician will guide participants through musical education and answer any questions.
Caregivers must stay with their children during the program. Please note: no animals will be present at this event.
Date: Jan. 4, 2025
Time: 2-3 p.m.

Singer, NHSO to bring mid-20th century music to life at Shelton High School


SHELTON - Sparks will fly when Joan Ellison brings the Golden Age of studio recording back to life at 3 p.m. Nov. 3 at Shelton High School.

A swinging celebration of the most dazzling singers, songwriters, and arrangers of the mid-20th century will be led by New Haven Symphony Orchestra Principal Pops Conductor Chelsea Tipton, II.
The timeless hits include Rosemary Clooney’s “April in Paris,” Peggy Lee’s “What a Little Moonlight Can Do,” Lena Horne’s “Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man of Mine,” Judy Garland’s “San Francisco” and “When The Sun Comes Out,” Ella Fitzgerald’s “’S Wonderful,” Doris Day’s “It’s Magic,” Eydie Gormé’s “Johnny One-Note,” Keely Smith’s “When Your Lover Has Gone,” and many more, featuring the original arrangements by Nelson Riddle, Conrad Salinger, and Paul Weston.
Sponsored by Valley Community Foundation, Frontier, and the New Haven Register.
Tickets for adults start at $15 and youth under 18 go free with an adult ticket purchase.

NHSO to play tribute to the Queen of Soul at Shelton High School


SHELTON - The New Haven Symphony Orchestra will play a tribute to the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin in a program at 3 p.m. June 4 at Shelton High School. 

The NHSO will welcome for the first time Broadway star Capathia Jenkins and three-time Grammy Award nominee Ryan Shaw to star in this glittery, high-energy soul/classical mashup.

The performance will feature such iconic hits as “Respect,” “Think,” “A Natural Woman,” “Chain of Fools,” “Amazing Grace,” and many others.

The NHSO series is geared to ages 4-10 and focuses on a different musician/instrument each month plus a story.
Bassoonist Remy Taghavi and his book, Ralph’s Secret Weapon will be featured.

The Children's Room at the Ansonia Library to host creating musical readers program




ANSONIA - The Ansonia Library staff will host the New Haven Symphony Orchestra's Ken Tedeschi at 11 a.m. Oct. 22 and enjoy while he narrates a story, Ben's Trumpet, with a trumpet. 

Learn about the trumpet, the music it makes, and how the parts all work together to create sound....and become a musical reader!

NHSO to perform Billy Joel, Elton John music at Shelton High School

SHELTON - The music of Billy Joel and Elton John will be performed by the New Haven Symphony Orchestra at 3 p.m. Sunday at Shelton High School, 120 Meadow St.


Piano Man meets Rocket Man … guest artists Jean Meilleur and John Regan, backed by the full orchestra, will play Billy Joel and Elton John’s biggest hits, including Big Shot, Circle of Life, Tiny Dancer, Movin’ Out, and more.

NHSO to transform Shelton High School into Emerald Isle with Irish music

SHELTON - The New Haven Symphony Orchestra  will transform Shelton High School auditorium into the Emerald Isle at 3

The orchestra will perform favorite Irish songs and jigs, including O Danny Boy, When Irish Eyes Are Smiling, and Whiskey in the Jar.

Music from The Quiet Man and Far and Away also will be performed.

NHSO to perform free concert at Shelton Intermediate School

SHELTON - The New Haven Symphony Orchestra will perform Babar the Elephant at 2 pm. Jan. 21 at Shelton Intermediate School.

Pianist William Braun will play Francis Poulenc’s whimsical L’Histoire de Babar while Really Inventive Stuff’s vaudeville actor Michael Boudewyns will return to narrate the tale about the King of the Elephants.

Shelton Intermediate School is at 675 Constitution Boulevard North.

New Haven Symphony Orchestra to perform Broadway tunes at Shelton High

SHELTON - Pops conductor Chelsea Tipton and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra will present "Music of the Night" from 3-5 p.m. Nov. 6 at Shelton High School, 120 Meadow St. 

The performance of show-stopping tunes from The Great White Way will feature dynamic Broadway vocalist Connor Bogart.

Ticket prices range from $35 to $49; college students, $10; kids 7-17 admitted free with the purchase of an adult ticket.

SHELTON - Star Wars, Jurassic Park, E.T., Harry Potter ... arguably the most influential composer of the film industry, John Williams has been awarded 22 Grammys, five Academy Awards, and four Golden Globes for his memorable movie themes.

Feelin' Groovy! concert to rock Shelton Intermediate School

SHELTON - The New Haven Symphony Orchestra will perform "Feelin' Groovy!" from 3-5 p.m. Oct. 11 at Shelton Intermediate School, 675 Constitution Boulevard North.

The concert will showcase songs of the 1970s.
It will feature classics from Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, and more.
