The first concert is Tuesday, Aug. 5. Tony Susi will play classic rock music.

SEYMOUR - Join us Dec. 27 for our monthly Coffee House, great music, hot coffee, and sweet treats.
This month's featured performer is Stephen Peter Rodgers.
He will be performing from 7-8 p.m. and then we'll open up the floor with Open Mic from 8-9 p.m.
Coffee and treats will be served.
$10 suggested donation.
Coffee house is hosted downstairs in Fellowship Hall at Seymour Congregational Church, 45 Broad St.

Stephen Peter Rodgers is an American singer/songwriter, producer and visual artist. 

His music career spans four decades starting when he was in his early teens as a founding member of underground AltRock band “Mighty Purple”, with whom he toured extensively for 20 years.

Stephen’s solo music is "grounded in raw grit and wisdom drawn from the perspective of a man with decades of life under his belt" (rock Mommy). His rich, deep voice delivers a humanity in the lyrics which resonates deeply with listeners. 

He continues to bring his music to listening venues, festivals and house concerts and is currently working on his fifth solo album. He is the former owner/director of Space Ballroom in Connecticut which hosted musicians of all ages and all genres during his 15-year tenure there. 

His music and visual art has been featured in countless print and online publications. His music has been played on radio stations all over North America and can be found on all online platforms. Additionally Stephen has been a worship director for more than 20 years and currently serves at Revive Church in Stamford.

Singer, NHSO to bring mid-20th century music to life at Shelton High School

SHELTON - Sparks will fly when Joan Ellison brings the Golden Age of studio recording back to life at 3 p.m. Nov. 3 at Shelton High School.

A swinging celebration of the most dazzling singers, songwriters, and arrangers of the mid-20th century will be led by New Haven Symphony Orchestra Principal Pops Conductor Chelsea Tipton, II.

The timeless hits include Rosemary Clooney’s “April in Paris,” Peggy Lee’s “What a Little Moonlight Can Do,” Lena Horne’s “Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man of Mine,” Judy Garland’s “San Francisco” and “When The Sun Comes Out,” Ella Fitzgerald’s “’S Wonderful,” Doris Day’s “It’s Magic,” Eydie Gormé’s “Johnny One-Note,” Keely Smith’s “When Your Lover Has Gone,” and many more, featuring the original arrangements by Nelson Riddle, Conrad Salinger, and Paul Weston.

Tribute to Dean Martin performance slated at Seymour Public Library

Jack Lynn was born in Bridgeport, Ct. at the time Dean Martin’s career was beginning to “take off.” Born of a Sicilian immigrant mother, Jack was raised in the atmosphere of a typical Italian family of the 1950s. 

“There was always lots of love, lots of food, and lots of great music.”
With the urging of friends, family and other singers, Jack developed his “Dino’s Back – A Tribute to Dean Martin” show. Jack will tell you, “I don’t consider myself an impressionist although people tell me if they close their eyes, it’s like listening to a Dean Martin CD. I really don’t think there could be any greater compliment for me. My goal is to honor and celebrate the memory of Dino’s sound, great sense of humor, and maybe have some fun along the way.”

In addition as a part of his show, Jack performs mini tributes to Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Perry Como and Elvis Presley.

This is a free event open to all, no registration is necessary for the 7 p.m. concert April 26. Library doors open at 6:30 p.m. Circulation and public computers remain closed.

Miller returns to the Library to host a rock 'n roll concert: From the Beatles to Patsy Cline.

All ages are invited to join Sheri for another entertaining event. She has performed at the Library several times and everyone always enjoys her stylish musical ability. 
This will be a great afternoon event for kids to attend as well as all music lovers. 
It will be one of the highlights of the summer at the Library.

Shelton Historical Society to present program about 4 famous women

In celebration of Women's History Month

SHELTON - To honor Women’s History Month in March, Shelton Historical Society will present This Old Hat, Patriots of Liberty March 23 at 1 p.m.   

Patty Carver, a singer, actress, and writer with international credits, will perform an original musical presentation that brings four noted American women to life.  

The program will be held at the Echo Hose Educational Center, 430 Coram Ave., in the former St. Joseph School. 

Sweet and savory light refreshments will be included in the admission price of $20/non-members, $15 for members of Shelton Historical Society, to benefit educational programs of the organization. 

Doors will open at 12:30 p.m.  
Four noted women of American history will be portrayed in This Old Hat, Patriots of Liberty.  

Historically correct and entertaining, the extraordinary stories of the lives of Betsy Ross, Deborah Sampson, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Amelia Earhart will delight, inform, and inspire the audience.

This program is one of a series of special presentations that will be offered this year by Shelton Historical Society to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the organization’s founding in 1969. 

The Shelton Historical Society operates Shelton History Center, a museum complex of six historic buildings located just north of the Huntington Green at 70 Ripton Road.  

The Center houses collections of manuscript materials, rare books, letters, diaries, and documents as well as material culture artifacts that represent Shelton’s rich history. 

Special events, monthly book discussions, and a biweekly program for teens are held.  Curriculum-based enrichment programs for school groups and a summer program for children are offered.

EXPLORE REDWING POND – Aug. 4, 2 p.m.

Join our staff for a fun-filled afternoon catching frogs and other inhabitants of Redwing Pond. We’ll start inside with a brief discussion on the vertebrates and invertebrates that inhabit the pond and learn how to identify them. Borrow our collection equipment and help us catch, observe and release these interesting critters. FREE. Please call to register.

GEOLOGY OF THE ANSONIA NATURE CENTER: Hike and Talk – Aug. 5, 1-3 p.m.

Ranger Amie will lead the group in a walk along Raptor Woods Trail to view outcrops of bedrock and identify major mineral groups in CT. She will also share some of her personal collection of rocks and minerals, including fossils and semi-precious stones. You can bring your collection to show others too! Wear good hiking boots and bring a water bottle and a small bag for collecting a few samples. 
FREE. (This is not a Scout badge class). Ages 8 years old and up (children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult). Class size is limited; please pre-register.

ROCKS IN SPACE: Perseid Meteor Showers –  Aug. 12, 8 p.m.

Come to Ansonia’s darkest location for some unusual night sky viewing with Bob Carruthers and the New Haven Astronomical Society. In addition to a chance to see the annual meteor showers, there will be a short talk about meteorites. You will get to view and touch meteorites from around the world. This night will be the peak of the showers! No need to bring anything except for warm clothing and a chair. Telescopes and binoculars are not necessary. 
Children must be accompanied by an adult.  FREE.

CATTAIL MAT WEAVING – Aug. 18 and Sept. 1, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Join Ranger Dan for a two-part series on cattails. Week 1 we will begin to collectively work on a mat made from the cattail reeds, and week 2 we will add the finishing touches to our mat. 
Learn how Native Americans from the Eastern Woodlands would use these reeds! Pack a bag lunch, and be prepared for swampy conditions. Adults only. 
FEE: $10 per person covers both weeks. Please pre-register; class limited to 8.

VINE CROWNS AND CIRCLETS – Aug. 19, 2:30 p.m.

Join Ranger Jessica on a woodland adventure to harvest invasive vines and weave them into beautiful crowns! Use these new skills to craft magical toys, hoops, bracelets, necklaces and dreamcatchers, all while helping our forests. Bring your own clippers. FREE. Ages 5 years old and up (children must be accompanied by an adult).

FULL STURGEON MOON HIKE – Aug. 25, 7:30 p.m.

The Native American fishing tribes are given credit for the naming of this Moon, since sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were most readily caught during this month. Join our staff on a hike in our meadows to watch as this reddish moon rises. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Number of participants is limited so please pre-register. 

FEE: $3 per person. Wear appropriate footwear.

Shelton girl meets Katy Perry onstage at Mohegan Sun

SHELTON - One lucky Shelton child met Katy Perry onstage at her recent concert at Mohegan Sun, thanks to the world-famous singer and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. 

Katy and BGCA have joined together to help put millions of young people on the path to a great future; part of the venture included giving her fans a chance to see her live by showing their support of their local Boys & Girls Club. 

The Valley's Boys & Girls Club was awarded 50 tickets for the concert at Mohegan Sun on Sept. 21, and the show was the second performance of Perry's brand new Witness tour.

At the concert, during a set which included planets and stars descending to stage level, Katy asked if any of her fans would like to help her wish upon a star. 

After searching the audience, Katy selected Gabriella Jones, a member of the Raymond P. Lavietes Unit in Shelton. 

Gabriella was wearing one of the special bright pink T-shirts made for the event, with a Boys & Girls Club logo on the front. 
When Katy brought her on stage, she asked Gabriella to wish on the star and to say what she wished for so that people could support her in her wish. 

After a moment of thought, Gabriella responded, “To pray for all the people that suffered from the hurricanes.” 
The crowd went wild, and Katy noted that Gabriella had been “brought up right,” and with the audience, Katy and Gabriella sent love and support to all those affected by the hurricanes.

As part of the partnership with Katy Perry, $1 of every ticket purchased is donated to Boys & Girls Clubs of America. 

The partnership was formed because Katy and BGCA share a commitment to improving the lives of young people through education, empowerment, and demonstrating good citizenship. 
Katy is one of the most famous singers in the world and is the most-followed person on Twitter with nearly one hundred million followers.

The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley has been changing the lives of young people in the Valley for more than 60 years, providing safe, fun, affordable programming and constructive care for youth when they are not in school.
