Children's librarian at Derby Public Library wins lifetime achievement award

Congratulations!

DERBY - Sue Sherman, Children’s Librarian of Derby Public Library, was honored with the 2022 Faith Hektoen Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual CT Library Association Conference Awards Ceremony in May.
The Faith Hektoen Award, named for a beloved and innovative Children’s Librarian, is the highest award a CT Children’s Librarian can receive.
It was awarded to Sue for her outstanding contribution to the field of librarianship and her longtime work helping children and families utilize the services and resources of the Library through programming, collection development and a true commitment to serving the public.
Sue was nominated for the award by Derby Public Library Director Scott Brill (at right.)
Serving as Library Director since December, Scott stated that he “has witnessed first-hand Sue’s good work here at the Library, which also prompted universal glowing and enthusiastic praise from her colleagues, past and present.” In a library career that has spanned over 25 years, Sue Sherman has helped improve and enhance the lives of children, members of the community as well as her colleagues through the dedication, devotion, and delight she brings to her work as a caring and creative Children’s Librarian.

Ansonia police announce Sunday road closures for parade


ANSONIA - On Sunday, May 29 the following roads will be closed from 12-4 p.m. for the City of Ansonia’s Memorial Day Parade.

 

Wakelee Avenue from Franklin Street to Jackson Street.

 

Jackson Street from Wakelee Avenue to Franklin Street

 

Maple Street from Holbrook Place to High Street.

 

Main Street from North Main Street to West Main Street.

 

The one way section of East Main Street from Kingston Drive to the Police Department will be changed to two way traffic in order to detour traffic from Main Street.

 

The parade will start at Nolan Field and proceed south on Wakelee Avenue turning left onto Jackson Street right onto Maple Street across the Maple Street bridge right onto Main Street finishing at the intersection of Main Street and West Main Street.

 There will be no parking of any vehicles along the parade route. 

Any vehicles parked along the parade route will be towed at the owner’s expense.
