'Turnback Tuesday' features Memorial Day remembrance

 Turnback Tuesday remembers those who served this country in good and prosperous times as well as the dark and scary times. Men and women from all corners, backgrounds, and ages of this country joined each other to protect us all and continue to do so.

Memorial Day or Decoration Day was originally designated on May 30,1868 with the first celebration taking place at Arlington Cemetery. In 1971, federal law changed the holiday to be the last Monday in May.

Derby Public Library wants to thank each and every one of our brave and selfless citizens who served. Thank You.

Brave Boots Story Time on tap Tuesday at Derby Public Library

Held in honor of Memorial Day and in celebration of all community helpers, this special event is a meaningful way to recognize the everyday heroes who serve and protect us. 

Gather the little heroes in your life for an exciting read-aloud led by a real firefighter, complete with stories about courage, teamwork, and helping others.

Kids will have the chance to:

- Listen to engaging, Memorial Day-themed stories 
- Meet Firefighter Logan and learn about his important work
 - Ask questions and discover what it takes to be a community hero
-Snap photos and enjoy a memorable, family-friendly experience
Whether your child dreams of big red trucks or simply loves a good story, this event is sure to spark imagination and gratitude in every heart!�

Recommended for ages 3-12, but all are welcome!
Registration required. Derby Public Library is at 313 Elizabeth St., Derby.
Please register each child separately so we know how many friends to expect!

The library observes all Monday holidays on Tuesdays as it is always closed on Mondays.

Seymour Congregational Church to hold Blessing of the Flags ceremony

SEYMOUR - Join us [at Seymour Congregational Church] for a powerful evening of remembrance and gratitude at our Blessing of the Flags and Dedication Ceremony, held in partnership with American Legion Post 10.

Throughout Memorial Day week, our church lawn will display a Field of Flags - each one honoring a service member who has served our country. On May 22 at 6 p.m., we invite the community to gather with us for a special ceremony where we will:
- Bless the flags
 Dedicate personalized plaques in memory or honor of veterans
 Join in reflection with music and community presence
 Offer prayers of thanks and remembrance

This is a family-friendly and community-wide event. Whether you have a loved one to honor or simply want to show your support and gratitude, all are welcome.
Come stand with us in reverence, unity, and hope.
