Shelton Police Department posts Shelton-Derby parade route

The Shelton/Derby Memorial Day parade will take place on Monday, May 26 at 9 a.m.

The parade starts on Howe Ave. by Wharf St., turns right onto Kneen St., right onto Coram Ave., right onto White St., right onto Howe Ave., and left onto Bridge St.

There is no parking on the parade route and Howe Ave. from Center St. to Wharf St. starting at 6 a.m.

Recuperation journey: Church and State

This scene spoke to me Monday morning as I walked across the Derby Green to wait for the Shelton-Derby Memorial Day Parade. 

Local history: In 1985 Hurricane Gloria damaged the top of the steeple of the Second Congregational Church (pictured) and it has never been replaced.

The two-city event started in downtown Shelton this year.

Club to host annual Memorial Day breakfast in Shelton

SHELTON - The annual "Doc" Bednar Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast will be held May 30 before, during, and after the Shelton-Derby Memorial Day Parade.

The breakfast, hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley, will be held at Walgreen's Pharmacy at the corner of Center Street and Coram Avenue.

All-you-can-eat fluffy buttermilk pancakes will be on the menu.

Cost is $5 per person; $4 for children under 12.

Tickets may be purchased at the Boys & Girls Club, 1 Positive Place, or pay at the breakfast.
