ANSONIA - Mayor David S. Cassetti encourages everyone to attend the annual "Paczki Eating Contest" at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Eddy’s Bake Shop, 37 Main St.

Cassetti said today that if an Ansonia resident eats the most paczki doughnuts then they will be Ansonia's Mayor for the Day.

Join Eddy's Bake Shop for its month-long 50th anniversary celebration.

Stop by the bakery and enjoy delicious baked goods and visit other shops and restaurants downtown.

Griffin in Derby extends deadline to sign up for weight loss challenge



DERBY - The deadline for entering the Griffin Hospital Community Meltdown Challenge has been extended to Feb. 23.

This online weight loss competition encourages participants to lose 6 percent of their total weight or maintain their weight over 12 weeks.

Participants hitting their goal will split a cash prize pool.

The challenge is conducted completely online with participants submitting a photo of their weight scale readings at the start of the challenge and at the finish. 
In addition, participants must earn points by completing health education and fitness tasks as well as supporting their fellow competitors. At the end of the challenge, the participants who hit their goals will receive cash.

There will also be prizes awarded throughout the challenge for those who do the best at certain tasks.

The competition costs $12.99 to join, with $10 going into the prize pool.

Derby Public Library offers games for teens

DERBY - The Derby Public Library hosts YA Wednesdays every month from 6-7:30 p.m.

All young adults ages 12 to 17 are invited to join the fun each Wednesday in March as Nintendo, Wii, board games, and Legos will be available. 

Light refreshments will be provided. Registration is requested.
