Griffin Hospital in Derby offers free menopause wellness workshop


DERBY - The Griffin Center for Healthy Living will host a new, free health education program to help women care for their well-being throughout menopause.

Women's Health and Menopause is a three-week workshop that helps support metabolic health, manage body composition, and nourish the female body through the menopause journey and beyond. 

This workshop will explain how metabolic changes for women in midlife affect muscle, fat mass, metabolism, and increase risk for osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, weight gain, and diabetes. 

Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist Carolyn Gundell, MS, CDCES, will share tips, credible resources regarding long-term, post-menopause health risks, and lifestyle habits every woman in menopause should consider to support healthy weight loss, muscle mass and strength, nutritional status, and metabolic balance.


There will be a session on Tuesdays, July 21 and 28, and Aug. 4 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Griffin Hospital. 

This free wellness program is part of Griffin’s commitment to improve community wellness through free education, guidance and assistance in preventing and managing chronic disease. Griffin Health in Derby to host education program about weight loss meds


DERBY - The Griffin Center for Healthy Living will host a new free health education program about GLP-1 and non-GLP-1 medications that support weight-loss and metabolic health.

Thriving on GLP-1 for Metabolic & Weight Management is a three-week workshop for anyone considering starting a GLP-1 or presently taking one. 

This workshop will explain the science of obesity, weight regulation, how GLP-1 medications work, and their benefits and risks. Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist Carolyn Gundell, MS, CDCES, will share strategies for managing medication side effects and discuss evaluating eating patterns, physical activity benefits, and other lifestyle habits that help sustain long-term weight loss and reduce health risks.

There will be a session on Thursdays July 30, and Aug. 6 and 13 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Griffin Hospital, 130 Division St.


This free wellness program is part of Griffin’s commitment to improve community wellness through free education, guidance and assistance in preventing and managing chronic disease. Griffin Health in Oxford to offer free weight-loss workshops


OXFORD - The Griffin Center for Healthy Living will offer free workshops in January to help individuals lose weight through lifestyle change.

Weight-Loss Toolkit – A Well-Being Program is a free, evidence-based healthy eating and active living course for adults based on Eating Smart, Being Active©. 

This six-week program provides tools and tips for sustained weight loss, such as creating individualized meal plans and proven weight-loss exercises.


There will two sessions held on Wednesdays Jan. 21 and 28, and Feb. 4, 11, 18, and 25 at The Griffin Center for Healthy Living, Quarry Walk, 300 Oxford Road. One session will be from 1:30-3 p.m. and the other session will be from 4-5:30 p.m.


Based on the latest research findings from the American Dietary Guidelines and written by educators at Colorado State University, Weight-Loss Toolkit educates and empowers participants to lead a healthy life through concepts for physical activity, food preparation, cooking and shopping skill development, and food safety. 

Nutrition education for chronic disease management is integrated into every class.

Cooking demo slated Thursday at Griffin Center for Healthy Living in Oxford


OXFORD - Griffin Bariatrics and the Griffin Center for Healthy Living will host a free presentation on weight-loss and a healthy cooking demonstration from 5-6:15 p.m. May 1 at the Center’s Teaching Kitchen at Quarry Walk, 300 Oxford Road.


“Have a Healthy Breakfast for Dinner” will feature a discussion with Registered Dietitian Larissa March about the five healthy eating mistakes people make every day. 

Griffin Health Chef Mike Rizzio will also demonstrate how to make a new trendy dish called Shakshuka, which is originally from North Africa and translates into “mixing things up.” 

This egg-based dish is a good source of protein, and vitamins and antioxidants from its tomatoes, peppers, and other vegetables, making it a great meal for those following a Mediterranean Diet.


Opened in 2020, the Griffin Center for Healthy Living is a unique facility in which Griffin Health partners with the community in wellness – offering education, guidance, and assistance in preventing and managing chronic disease, and promoting overall well-being.
