'Turnback Tuesday' features prescription written by a Shelton physician

Turnback Tuesday features a rare object this week.

It is a prescription written by Dr. Gould A. Shelton, a physician from Shelton, to be filled by Henry B. Peck, Druggist on Main Street in Birmingham.

Peck was a druggist from about 1875 to 1912. He was at three different locations on Main Street. Dr. Gould A. Shelton began his practice in 1875 and he was located at 40 White St. in Shelton.

Later in his career he was the City Health Officer and also Secretary & Treasurer for the Plumb Memorial Library from 1918 to 1927.

Shelton was active until his death on Jan. 8, 1927.

This artifact was a recent donation from Norman Hayden.

Thanks goes to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week.
