Derby Public Library hosts monthly book club on last Thursdays



As we march into the new month, Derby Public Library would like to remind our lovely patrons and perhaps future friends, that we host a monthly book club on the last Thursday of every month.

Led by our Circulation Manager Kathy Wilson, join us for a riveting discussion on our BOM (book of the month)

Derby Neck Library to host Genre Speed Dating program Thursday


Step out of your reading comfort zone at Genre Speed Dating, a fast-paced adult program where readers are introduced to niche and trending genres—from isekai manga to mafia billionaire dark romance. 
Enjoy a lively presentation on tropes and must-read titles, then “match” with new favorites by checking off the genres that spark your interest. Ages 16+.

Santa to visit Story Time at Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton


2 sessions on Dec. 20
Ages: 1-9 years old
“Story Time with Santa” will include:
Santa reading some festive books, singing some seasonal songs plus participants will decorate an ornament & of course meet Santa and take a picture or two!
2 Sessions:
Please only register your child for ONE session. Each child participating must register separately.
Session #1: 9:15-9:45 a.m.
OR
Session #2: 10:15-10:45 a.m.
Registration opens at noon Tuesday, 11/25 here on FB.

Morbid Curiosity Book Club to meet Thursday at Derby Neck Libirary


DERBY - The Morbid Curiosity Book Club will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Derby Neck Library.
An adults-only book club reading into true crime, cults, conspiracies, mortuary science, and more!

Tween Book Club to meet June 4 at Derby Public Library


DERBY - Have you read this? Are you in the process of, or interested in doing so?
If yes, why not come join our [Derby PublIc Library's] new book discussion/club for "tweens" (ages 9-12) on June 4 at 5:30 p.m.

Our next book is The Bletchley Riddle by Ruta Sepetys & Steve Sheinkin.
This historical adventure follows two siblings at Bletchley Park, the home of WWII codebreakers, as they try to unravel a mystery surrounding their mother’s disappearance.
Books are available for checkout in the children’s department. Light refreshments provided.

Derby Public Library to host nature reading series book discussion April 21


DERBY -
In collaboration with the Kellogg Environmental Center, Derby Public Library will be hosting the first part of the 2025 Naturally Nature Reading Series at 6:30 p.m. April 21.
The Reading Series will focus on led book discussions and workshops.
The first in our series will be focused on “Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer and will begin with a book discussion hosted by the Derby Public Library.
The Library is at 313 Elizabeth St.
Book Summary: Drawing on her life as an indigenous scientist, and as a woman, Kimmerer shows how other living beings―asters and goldenrod, strawberries and squash, salamanders, algae, and sweetgrass―offer us gifts and lessons, even if we've forgotten how to hear their voices.
