Derby Neck Library to host bilingual story time


DERBY - Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. [at Derby Neck Library] join Señor Bob in our Community Room for a bilingual storytime for speakers of all languages!
You’ll sing songs, listen to stories, and ¡se divertirán mucho!
This program to promote foreign language skills is targeted for ages 3-5, but all are welcome.
No registration required, but sign up for our Youth Services mailing list to stay in the loop on cancellations by clicking here.

The Library is at 307 Hawthorne Ave., Derby.

Drums & Strings and Shaky Things on tap at Derby Neck Library


DERBY - Come get your groove on at Derby Neck Library with Brendan from 10:30-11:30 a.m. every other Monday during a music and movement program! Next session is this Monday, Feb. 2.
There will be singing, dancing, stories, and a whole lot of shaky things!

This program is targeted to ages Birth – 5, but everyone is welcome!

Derby Neck Library to debut Tales and Tunes today

DERBY - Join our [Derby Neck Library's] newest program for school-aged children, Tales and Tunes, today at 4:30! We read stories, sing songs, and do crafts/activities.

Today's theme is Ducks! Enjoy a fun program celebrating our feathered friends of the water!

Ansonia High School Drama Club to present Open Mic Night


ANSONIA - AHS Drama Club will host an Open Mic Night from 6-8 p.m. May 15.

There will be performances from both teachers and students that include singing, dancing, and comedy.

Derby Public Library to celebrate Read Across America Day

DERBY - Families with kids up to age 12 are welcome to visit Derby Public Library throughout the day with ongoing literacy-themed activities including a scavenger hunt and art/craft projects at the DIY Station.  

No registration needed for this portion of the celebration.

The day will also feature “Sing Me a Story” presented by Nancy Hershatter at 10:30 a.m. geared for kids ages 1-6 (siblings welcomed). 

Instrument play, creative movement, puppetry, and parachute fun are all part of this 45-minute, highly interactive program.


REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED; PLEASE BE SURE TO REGISTER EACH CHILD SEPARATELY.   

ALSO, PARENTS/CAREGIVERS DO NOT NEED TO  BE REGISTERED, ONLY THEIR CHILDREN.


Read Across America is an annual event celebrated on or near March 2, the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss. 

It is a nationwide reading celebration that was created by the National Education Association in 1997 to promote literacy and encourage a love of reading among children.

First United Methodist Church in Ansonia to host singing, musician competition


ANSONIA - First United Methodist Church will host a Soul Spectacular Singing and Musician Competition at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The church is at 47 Franklin St.

Winners will get choice of performance dates and times. Prizes to be awarded based on performance.
