Derby Neck Library to hold Crafternoon Sunday


DERBY - Join Kate at Derby Neck Library for a DIY Zone program from 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday and learn to use the supplies, equipment, and machinery in our adult DIY Zone!

Each session will focus on a new activity or skill.

Advance registration may be required for some events. Ages 14+ only.

DIY LEGO Gifts & Wrap

Grades: K-6

In need of a gift but do not have any money? Never fear your library is here! 

We will provide you with a few DIY LEGO gift options to choose from plus the LEGO bricks, directions, and other necessary supplies to create a one-of-a-kind holiday present! 

Children will be building their own gift, then wrapping the gift with provided paper, tissue paper, and bows! Caregivers will be helping their child during this program.

Derby Public Library to celebrate Read Across America Day

DERBY - Families with kids up to age 12 are welcome to visit Derby Public Library throughout the day with ongoing literacy-themed activities including a scavenger hunt and art/craft projects at the DIY Station.  

No registration needed for this portion of the celebration.

The day will also feature “Sing Me a Story” presented by Nancy Hershatter at 10:30 a.m. geared for kids ages 1-6 (siblings welcomed). 

Instrument play, creative movement, puppetry, and parachute fun are all part of this 45-minute, highly interactive program.


REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED; PLEASE BE SURE TO REGISTER EACH CHILD SEPARATELY.   

ALSO, PARENTS/CAREGIVERS DO NOT NEED TO  BE REGISTERED, ONLY THEIR CHILDREN.


Read Across America is an annual event celebrated on or near March 2, the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss. 

It is a nationwide reading celebration that was created by the National Education Association in 1997 to promote literacy and encourage a love of reading among children.

Huntington Branch Library to host DIY Spa Night fun



Everyone deserves to be pampered! Ages 12 and up (including adults) are invited to join us for an evening of making bath bombs and lip scrubs. Materials and in-person instructions will be provided. 
We will be making a basic bath bomb; however, if you would like to personalize yours, please feel free to bring pressed flower petals or other added surprises.

Registration is required. Children under the age of 18 MUST have an accompanying adult registered with them.

Derby Public Library offers kids Thanksgiving-themed activities


DERBY - Gather up a harvest of Fall and Thanksgiving-themed activities at our DIY Station in the Children's Room at Derby Public Library.

There's something for everyone including a turkey napkin ring craft, bookmarks, coloring sheets, and more! 

Gobble up some fun with our "Turkey Hunt" Challenge (scavenger hunt) in November. All activities at the DIY Station may be completed in person or are available to grab and go.

OXFORD - Oxford Public Library will host “DIY Backyard Chickens and Goats” from 11 a.m.-noon July 24.

Create a sock snowman in January at Derby Public Library


DERBY - The Derby Public Library staff is kicking off the New Year with a continuation of DPL DIYs from 11 a.m.1 p.m. Jan. 4.
This month’s project is Sock Snowmen! Participants of all ages will use gently worn socks to create their own one-of-a-kind snowman.
All materials are supplied. No fee. Drop in!
