Sharing 2016 'Turnback Tuesday' memory about black governors

This week's "Turnback Tuesday" photo is of Nancy Freeman - wife of the (in)famous "black governor," Roswell Freeman.

The photo was taken in the backyard of her home, which was located where Osbornedale State Park is now. The Freemans lived in Derby during the early and mid 1800s.

In 2012, the area where the Freeman home was believed to have stood was excavated in order to learn more about the family and the role "black governors" had in Derby.

Thanks goes to Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week.
