Volunteers needed to provide insight on maternal health in Valley

Griffin Health and the Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center are looking for Naugatuck Valley residents who are pregnant or have given birth in the past two years to share their experiences with maternal care in the community.

Participants will be asked to talk about their medical care during and after pregnancy to help identify any gaps in the local health care system in order to make birthing experiences safer and more supportive.

"Every pregnancy and birth experience matters, and your voice can help shape better care for our community," said Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center Research Associate Summaya Multany.

These listening sessions will be held throughout June and will be virtual (by phone or computer).

Applicants must be Naugatuck Valley residents who are currently pregnant or have given birth in the past two years.

Participants will receive a $50 gift card.

To sign up or for more information, contact Multany at 203-732-1325 or summaya.multany@yalegriffinprc.org.

Volunteers sought for elder life program at Griffin Hospital in Derby

DERBY - The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) at Griffin Hospital is looking for volunteers to provide additional support for elderly patients.

Research shows that between 30 and 50 percent of seniors can experience a decline in their physical and cognitive abilities during a hospital stay.

HELP is a comprehensive, evidence-based, patient care program that provides important connections between volunteers and patients, including mealtime assistance, daily orientation, therapeutic activities, and range of motion exercises, to help patients maintain their optimal level of well-being. HELP volunteers also work in partnership with the doctors and nursing staff to highlight issues specific to geriatric care and to provide education to patients and their families.

Anyone 18 years and older is eligible to volunteer for HELP. No previous medical experience is required, and training and supervision are provided.
Volunteers are required to give a minimum six-month commitment of one three-hour shift per week for a total of 150 hrs. The program is most needed on weekdays from 4-7 p.m. Limited day shifts are also available, including Saturdays.

College students looking to enter the medical field are encouraged to apply as this opportunity will provide hands-on patient care experience. College scholarship incentives are also available.

To apply or to find out more information, call 203-732-1553 or visit griffinhealth.org/volunteer.

Youths sought to park cars at Ansonia Nature Center Autumn Fest

Here's a Great Opportunity for Youth Volunteers!

This is Ranger Dan with exciting news.

I have an opportunity for youth volunteers who were too late for signing up (things filled up fast for the student volunteers).

We have parking duties split into two shifts so that all of the parking volunteers can enjoy either the first part or the latter part of the festival.

This is where a chance for your youth volunteers has opened up: minors ages 12 - 17 who have one parent who will accompany them to volunteer specifically for parking duties are invited to fill out the form that I will be sharing in this email. (If a student has already signed up to volunteer, they cannot fill out this form as well because I am already working on their placement.)

Parent/youth duos who will commit to one of the two shifts are to fill out the form, which can be found by clicking HERE.

This is Great News for those who want to be a part of what we do here at the Ansonia Nature Center. If you have questions, reach out to me here: 203-736-1053.

Sincerely,

Ranger Dan
