Massaro Community Farm in Woodbridge to hold Firefly Festival July 25



WOODBRIDGE - Join us for a magical summer evening at Massaro Community Farm as we celebrate the wonder of fireflies!

On Saturday, July 25 beginning at 6:30 p.m. the farm will come alive with glowing fields, family-friendly activities, and a warm community atmosphere.

Bring the whole family and enjoy hands-on kids crafts, delicious eats from a local food truck, and the simple joy of exploring the farm at dusk as fireflies begin to twinkle across the fields. It’s the perfect way to slow down, connect with nature, and make lasting summer memories.

As the sun sets, take a stroll through the farm, relax with friends, and watch as the landscape transforms into a sparkling nighttime display.

Massaro Community Farm slates 8-week Ansonia After School Program


WOODBRIDGE - Massaro Farm's Ansonia After School Program for grades 1-6 starts Wednesday, March 29 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. There is still room to sign up your student!

Farm after school programs allow your child to have a hands on experience here at Massaro Community Farm. 

Participants spend time getting our garden beds ready for sowing, planting seeds and seedlings, caring for chickens, exploring the nature trail, learning basic survival skills and other fun and educational activities.

Derby Public Library to host presentation on gardening Wednesday


DERBY - Seed Starting & Composting will be presented by Massaro Community Farm of Woodbridge at 6:30 p.m. this Wednesday at Derby Public Library.
The presentation is for all ages.

Unravel the mysteries of gardening during this informative session, taught by Advanced Certified Master Gardener Rachel Ziesk, who has been teaching gardening classes for over 10 years.
Learn about seed starting - what to start indoors, direct seed outdoors, or plant in the fall - and the basics of composting.
You can practice these skills later in the free community garden located on the Caroline Street side of the Library!
The Library is at 313 Elizabeth St.

Massaro Community Farm in Woodbridge to host beekeeping workshops


Beekeeping is back at Massaro! Offering multiple classes March-September. See below for class description.
These workshops are focused on hobbyists, backyard beekeepers and those considering beekeeping; all levels welcome. 
Suggested donation is $10 per person at the door.
At 10 a.m. March 25 - Package and Nuc installation; if temps allow we will perform a hive inspection.

Visit the farm on March 11 at 2 p.m. for an outdoor hands-on workshop on the Basics of Maple Sugaring. 
Learn about the basic tools that are used and go over each step in creating maple syrup! This workshop is $20/pp.

Massaro Community Farm in Woodbridge to hold 6-week winter program for kids


WOODBRIDGE - Join us at Massaro Farm for our Winter Explorers program! 

This six-week class will be held on Sundays beginning Jan. 15 from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. Program will skip Feb.19 and conclude on Feb. 26.
Encourage outdoor learning and discovery by sending your child to Massaro Community Farm for its Explorer Series! 

This program will engage children ages 6-11 to embrace outdoor activities, no matter what time of year. Cost is $165 per child for six weeks. 

Participants will identify animal tracks on the trail, build a survival shelter, enjoy (safe) time by the fire, observe the change in seasons, and understand how our lives impact environmental health. 

Led by environmental educators Jim Matheson and Ashley Antoine.

WOODBRIDGE - Come and join us Friday for a free family fun night here at Massaro Community Farm! Doors open at 6. 

Bring a picnic dinner to enjoy on the lawn. Hike our nature trial, visit our goats, and make a craft! Finish the night with a viewing of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

Massaro Community Farm in Woodbridge to host children's programs


WOODBRIDGE - Massaro Community Farm, 41 Ford Road, has scheduled several children's programs this winter.

Goat Walks
We’ll be holding winter Goat Walks every other Saturday at 10 a.m. beginning Jan. 29. Only steady rain or ice will cancel. 
On these family-friendly walks we’ll explore the woods and edges of the farm where wildlife abounds. Dress for winter weather. $5/pp or $10/family. Secure a spot on SignUpGenius.com.

Growing Sprouts
We’ve opened up registration for a return of our Growing Sprouts program for children ages 3-5. This eight-week parent+child program encourages farm exploration, gardening, curiosity, and connecting with nature. 
Please note that this is not a drop-off program. Growing Sprouts will begin Jan. 29 from 11 a.m.-noon. $130/parent and one child; $150/parent and two children.

Winter Explorers
Back by popular demand, registration is now open for Winter Explorers for children ages 6-11. This eight-week series allows children to explore the woods and fields of the farm and learn winter survival techniques. Winter Explorers will begin  Jan. 30: two sessions are offered. 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. $160/pp (sibling discount available). Held rain or shine.

Registration for youth programs can be made through the farm website, MassaroFarm.org.

Massaro Community Farm is a non-profit, certified organic community farm on 57 acres of land whose mission is to keep farming, feed people, and build community
In addition to growing vegetables for seasonal subscribers, the farm donates thousands of pounds each year to hunger relief.
