F.A.D.E. to hold 8th annual 5K walk/run for overdose awareness in Shelton

The event at 5:30 p.m Thursday at the Shelton Riverwalk, 100 W. Canal St., benefits BHcare's Alliance for Prevention & Wellness. 

F.A.D.E (Fighting Against Drugs Everywhere) is an organization that brings education and awareness to drug overdose and awareness. 

-Registration is a $40 Race Fee + sign up fee and a free T-shirt if you register before June 18th. 
-Anyone 10yrs old and younger are free with no t-shirt
-Day of registration is $40 for anyone older than 10 (Cash/check only) with no t-shirt.

At checkout you'll have the option of having your loved one's name added to the "In Memory of..." section on the back of the shirt. Please give us the first and last name of your loved one so we don't duplicate names. 

The deadline to collect names is June 18.

This is a great run/walk with family, friends or colleagues. This is also timed race!

Ansonia mayor announces bid for state representative in 104th District

ANSONIA - Mayor David S. Cassetti – six term Mayor of Ansonia and former amateur boxer – formally announced his campaign for State Representative of the Connecticut’s 104th District, representing Ansonia and Derby, in a rousing speech delivered at the Riverwalk Gazebo on Division Street this past Wednesday morning before a large crowd of supporters.

“Up in Hartford ... up there at the Capitol ... I’m sorry, we just are not seeing the same fighting spirit that we have here in the Valley,” Mayor Cassetti said, before excoriating state legislators for “throwing in the towel” on vital issues including fair education funding for distressed communities, affordability, and crime.

Pulling no punches, Mayor Cassetti observed that Hartford was “balancing its budget on the backs of local taxpayers and schools” while “passing laws that redefine crime to the point that criminals feel empowered and untouchable.”

Cassetti, a popular local official is well known for his successful Ansonia Recharged revitalization initiative, warned that the economic comebacks of Valley cities like Ansonia and Derby are being imperiled by Hartford’s mistakes: “they are putting everything we are fighting for at risk,” he told supporters.

Mayor Cassetti announced that he would be stepping forward as “a new champion for the Valley in Hartford” and “the voice of a unified Valley that will never throw in the towel.”

An amateur boxer in his youth, Mayor Cassetti pointed out the crucial difference between fighting “against others” in the ring and “for others” as a public servant. He concluded that fighting for his community was ultimately more satisfying, and that his accomplishments as Mayor – such as “lowering taxes by 13 mills” and “clearing acres of empty factory space to create new jobs” – were “the real knock outs.”

Cassetti also made clear to supporters that he intends on continuing his term as Mayor of Ansonia while serving as State Representative, making him an even more effective and credible representative for the Valley on the floor of the State House.

Ansonia Police Sgt. Nelson completes Run to Remember in Boston

Congratulations to Sgt. Brendon Nelson for participating in Boston's Run to Remember, a race held Sunday, May 28 to honor fallen police officers and first responders. 

Sgt. Nelson ran the five mile course in full uniform completing the course in 49:21.2. Well done, Sgt. Nelson.

Sunset Run for the Warriors 5K fundraiser slated in Shelton

SHELTON - On Sunday (Aug. 19), the ninth Annual Sunset Run for the Warriors will be held in Shelton. 

The race will begin at the Huntington Green on Church Street and continue onto Isinglass Road, Nichols Avenue, and ending at Church Street. 

The 5K will cut across Blueberry Lane to Nichols Avenue.

At 5 p.m. the entire race route will be closed to all traffic except for emergency vehicles. 

The race route will remain closed until the last runner has passed through a particular section or roadway of the route.

Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes during the time period of the race.

Naugatuck YMCA to hold Rubber Duck 5K

Someone I know ran her first 5K in the snow ~ in Trumbull

Daughter Allegra should be proud. I know I'm proud of her accomplishment. 
She started running about two months ago, and Saturday she finished the Bridgeport Police Activities League annual 5K road race. 

There were 97 entrants, and Allegra placed near the end. But she was happy to report she wasn't the last one to cross the finish line. 

These are two scenes from the 67th annual Christmas Village at the Bridgeport PAL Complex in Trumbull where the 5K began. 

The route went through Beardsley Park and part of Beardsley Zoo - that must have been fun! 
Allegra said she "was very cold and very wet," but she "had a good time."

All generations race at Wesley Village Halloween 5K in Shelton

SHELTON - Wesley Village hosted its eighth annual 5K and Fun Walk Oct. 29 on its senior living campus on Long Hill Avenue. 

Truly a “Race for All Generations,” the event was sponsored by Serra & DelVecchio and boasted more than 300 total participants, 40 of which were over the age of 70! 

Participants (some in costume) crossed the finish line at the front entrance of Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center, to the roaring cheers of dozens of Wesley Village residents, staff, volunteers, and family members. 

The 5K Run featured a flat out and back course sponsored by C.E. Floyd Company, along with a 1-Mile Fun Walk sponsored by M&T Bank and a Kids Run, sponsored by Merit Insurance. 

The community event was coordinated with the help of JB Sports Event Management. 

Race festivities were hosted across the beautiful Wesley Village Campus and included trick-or-treating, face painting, a bounce house, music, food, and a trophy and awards ceremony. Proceeds from the race benefitted award-winning resident programs at Wesley Village as well as The Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter. 

Wesley Village would like to thank Mayor Mark Lauretti, Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce President Bill Purcell, the Pine Rock Park Volunteer Fire Company, Silvia Rodriguez and the Youth 2 Youth Program, and the many other local sponsors and participants who helped to make this year’s race a huge success!
