 ANSONIA - Nolan Field was the place to be Saturday as thousands enjoyed live music, culinary delights of every description, and plenty of family fun at Rock the Valley.

I've read many, many positive comments on Facebook in the past three days thanking the organizers and all who worked hard to create a wonderful festival and best fireworks show ever.

I want to add my compliments to the Cultural Commission and all who were involved in making Rock the Valley an incredibly successful event.

My late husband Ralph served as Cultural Commission chairman and was one of the key organizers in past Rock the Valley events. Those memories of the months of planning I witnessed make the festival a nostalgic one for me. 

I was happy to meet Meadow McFarland of Seymour at the festival. She is a very poised Miss Mini Valley and I wish her the best in her future endeavors!

Ansonia Cultural Commission warns Rock the Valley vendors of scammers

It has been brought to our attention that some vendors are being contacted by individuals other than The Ansonia Cultural Commission requesting payment for a spot at our events.

1. The only way to obtain an application is through the City of Ansonia page or through a request to the AnsoniaCulturalCommission@gmail.com email address.
2. We DO NOT and HAVE NOT EVER requested payment through an email in the form of any electronic payment!

3. The only way to secure a spot at one of our events is by mailing in your application (or physically bringing it to the Ansonia City Hall) with a payment by either a check or money order.

Please do not be fooled by these degenerates! The Ansonia Cultural Commission prides itself on giving small businesses the opportunity to be a part of fun, family events. 

If you have been victim to these scammers please do your part and report it to the admins of the group you were contacted from.

Rock the Valley 2022 in Ansonia was bittersweet for this writer

Singer/songwriter Riley Johnson entertains  at the start of the festival Saturday afternoon.

ANSONIA - Rock the Valley 2022 returned to Nolan Field Saturday after a two-year absence.

Ansonia Events Coordinator and Cultural Commission member Rich DiCarlo spoke this week about the festival. He said about 2,500 people strolled the venue featuring craft and food vendors and a kids' zone.

"This year we decided to return to the roots of Rock 'n Roll with a musical lineup to match," DiCarlo said. "We premiered our new larger stage which we named the Road Ready stage, after the event's sponsor.

"I'd like to thank Irene Krom-Kirby for taking the reins from our beloved Ralph Villers.

"They were really big shoes to fill but she persevered. I'd also like to extend my thanks to George and Pat and the rest of the Ansonia Cultural Commission and Mayor Dave Cassetti for making Rock the Valley happen.

"We already started negotiating with next year's headliner and promise to have the best show set for next year. Details to be announced soon."

Rich is a good friend and he and my late husband Ralph were the main organizers of Rock the Valley in the past - with much help from city officials, Cultural Commission members and other volunteers.

As someone who observed first-hand the months of planning involved I can attest to how well Rich and Ralph complemented each other in working to make Rock the Valley a success!
